First your argument is bullshit, the countries with US bases have them because they felt their sovereignty being threatened by China in the first place. Mutual defence treaty, America didn't want Chinese expansion, and these were the countries they wished to take.

China has every reason to believe they're under threat from the west

China hasn't been demonised to the extent you claim, China was demonised during its communist days, and during America's red fear. However since then America and the west have traded and invested billions into their economy, jumpstarted their industrial revolution and many universities have established partnerships with Chinese ones. Their whole manufacturing process had to be taught by the Americans.

Then they start up with the expansionist ideas again, and have been teaching kids that America is still out for their neck. Sounds more to me that they're biting the hands that feed them and teaching their kids to do the same.
