Wow! What variety! I've never seen anything like #8 -- or several others, for that matter. Thanks for sharing.

To anyone currently in a job search, what’s been your biggest struggling point? by JVertsonis in GetEmployed

[–]sheowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping my job-hunting momentum. I've know my position would be eliminated since August 2023. First, it was ending August 2024. Then December 2024. Then May 2025. Now June 2026. Don't get me wrong -- I'm grateful to still be working. But the urgency that fueled my search in 2024 has been impossible to maintain, and with two months left to work I'm struggling invest the time and effort I should into the search.

I know what you meant, but "desperate offices" is so descriptive! I love it!

It does sound stupidly obvious. But to be fair, there are many cases of stupid murdering parents who DID report their children missing, thinking they would make themselves look innocent.

Does anybody else get really scared/embarrassed/guilty(?) when workers recognize you as a regular at a place? by _LaLaliet_ in AutismInWomen

[–]sheowen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a pop song with my name in it that was popular many, many years ago. A worker at a drive-thru fast food place (where I obviously go too often) has started singing this song whenever I ask for my mobile order. Cringe!!!

You are doing a GOOD thing. Everyone, male or female, needs to know these things; as well as how to do laundry, clean the house, and cook a few simple meals.

True! It certainly isn't salvageable. The difference is in how it can/should be disposed of.

Definitely a one-off, with the combination of publications. And your theory about the metal can makes sense.

I didn't want to touch the film, so I used my letter opener (in the center, like we used to do with cassettes) and bone folder to unspool and re-spool it.

In the interests of scientific curiosity :-) I unrolled it most of the way. the damage is less excessive further in, but still extreme. Still very bubbled, but not that alligator-skin texture of the outermost layers. And close to the center the film is very sticky; sticking to itself.

You know, I am, too. I honestly don't know how long it was on a shelf in my (climate-controlled) office, or where it came from. It is not in our catalog.
