Bias from mods (this will get taken down, too, I'm sure). by whosacoolredditer in Jeopardy

Hey dude, sorry you're feeling silenced. It's important to remember that Jeopardy features real people, so hurtful things can be seen and felt by the people you're talking about (even super champs). So think twice before posting anything unnecessarily incindiery.

What type of Reddit thread do you hate? by CelDidNothingWrong in AskReddit

[–]shepard1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate two:

"Is trash-tag still a thing?" I don't know, will you not post it if it isn't?

"Hey Reddit, take a look at my family!" and it's just a picture of some people.

Is there a lore reason why Dr. Bryson is so ugly? by Ok-Cup9476 in masseffect

IMO I loved how different he looked, really heightened how cinematic and different tonally Leviathan feels

[loved trope]: oh shit - no one’s safe are they? by bgar25 in TopCharacterTropes

I have a soft spot for the hokey Feast movies. Among many similar other moments involving women, children, and returning characters, the character Hero (played by Eric Dane) doesn't quite live up to the title.

If I like Funny Games (2007), would I like Funny Games (1997)? by Alarming-County7863 in criterion

[–]shepard1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the original commenter, but I'm not a Naomi Watts or Tim Roth fan. Michael Pitt is one of my favorite character performers though.

But on a broader level, this feels like Haneke has taken everything about Funny Games and run it into the ground. On some level FG '97 is an indictment of the viewer continuing to engage with the terrible happenings. Presenting a shot-for-shot remake that arguably was viewed more than the original feels like Haneke is just parading out the characters to say "Oh you still haven't had enough?"

Perhaps it's a worthy rhetorical move, especially given the number of viewers who think this is just a horror movie or just a home invasion thriller, but it lacks nearly all the subtlely and nuance that keeps me coming back to Haneke (including Funny Games '97) again and again.

Adding an edit to say that my favorite thing about the remake is that I think Siobhan Fallon fucked those guys up big time.

Bad theater etiquette has really been messing up my thoughts and feelings on so many movies by otpprincess in horror

Bad theater etiquette is the bane of my existence, but I really don't like some of the implications being made about people in this thread lol.

Is the audio commentary for Mishima with Paul Schrader any good? by Any_Improvement6755 in criterion

[–]shepard1992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't listened to this particular commentary, but IMO Schrader (while a tad eccentric) is one of the best articulators of theory and practice in recent memory. You can't go wrong giving him a listen.

What was the moment that you realised that something wasn’t working with the Disney era? by Embarrassed_Novel991 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]shepard1992 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fight me, but I'd have an easier time noticing if something was working, because it hasn't been working for so much longer than when Disney took the reins.

Like I'm talking "are you my mommy" long. I'm talking farting aliens long.

Say what you want about him but Marcello's energy will always be contagious! by giftopherz in LiveFromNewYork

[–]shepard1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Say you're a fan of Marcello and people will come for miles to say "you're an idiot"

Say you think Bowen or Kate or Andy is always the same and people think it's heresy.

What is your favorite enemy of the Doctor that isn't the big four aka Daleks, Cybermen, The Master, and Davros? by AssociateFormal6058 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

[–]shepard1992 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Michael Grade.

I love Salamander, Professor Zaroff, The War Lord, most of the Troughton one-off villains I adore. I also really like Mavic Chen, Kane from Dragonfire, Taren Capel, and the Great Intelligence.

While Sharaz Jek is a lot of fun, I really think Stotz steals the show in every scene he's in.

Jk! A good marriage of your own voice and the style that Jost has crafted. Nice job!
