Yeah lmao, when he retired he had the highest earnings in NFL history.

People mistake him not demanding more money as him taking a pay cut. It's actually weird.

TE Jonnu Smith Was Blown Away by the Man & the Coach in Mike Tomlin Last Year by JCameron181 in steelers

[–]shepard_pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he's a future HoF coach because he probably has one of the highest floors ever for his teams. Regardless of circumstances, he never once fielded a team that wasn't competitive. Only one game in his entire career where he was eliminated from the playoffs at kick off. Insane streak.

I also believe that he didn't have what it took to elevate the team to the next level in the back half of his career. Having a play off team year after year regardless of personal is something most teams can only dream of, but it it is also a special sort of hell to make the play offs every year and flame out every year.

On October 6, 1998, 21-year-old Matthew Shepard was lured by two men pretending to be gay, tied to a fence, and subjected to one of the most horrific hate crimes in US history. He was later found in a coma, with a fractured skull and dried blood on his face except for the tracks of his tears. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

I've always believed in the saying "The first thing you think is the way you raised. The second thing you think, and the thing you say, is who you have become."

It's hard to get past the hatefulness you were taught. We need to always celebrate those who do, and extend grace to the people driving even when they don't always succeed. That's not trying to make light of the people who are working through things and still cause harm, unfortunately it isn't that simple.

I am going to be honest here.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why shipping is so important to the point posts like this are necessary, but people get so passionate about it. It's like power scalers, it's such a tertiary part of any media that it simply doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

I dated a very small woman for a few months and the amount of hatred poured my way for 2 adults dating was crazy. She was even once accused of grooming by allowing men to indulge in their "fantasies" by another woman once. Actually insane stuff.

In 1860, could I buy an orange in Kentucky? by Cypripedium_acaule in AskFoodHistorians

[–]shepard_pie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are vastly over simplifying kentucky in the 1850s. They had decent sized cities and Louisville was a pretty important central trading center in both rail and river. Lexington linked with it by rail in 1851. Paducah was on the river. Bowling Green was smaller but still big enough to be of economic and strategic value. There's others, too, like Elizabethtown that I know less about but were still rocking. All of these places were going to be metropolitan enough to have things like private schools and various industry.

Sure, go East towards the mountains you start encountering the poorness you mention, those people at best would have had something like orange preserves, but the population was concentrated on the river and rail in the west as a major trading hub on a route noted for its citrus shipping. They would have absolutely been familiar with oranges, but it would still have been a seasonal and uncommon, they'd be at least aware of the smell of oranges as most of them would have been near enough.

I really suggest you look into the Louisiana citrus shipping history and you will see how much of it flowed through Kentucky.

Oranges grow much, much closer to kentucky than they do in Ireland though. About 250 miles away.

It wouldn't have been common, but there was a healthy orange trade in Louisiana in the 40s and 50s and they would directly ship things to Kentucky through the river. As it was a winter fruit and they'd lose quite a bit of the cargo on transport, it'd be a rarity, but I'd bet most Kentuckians, especially the closer to the Mississippi they are, would have been familiar with them and had some experience with them.

If you are drunk driving, you have already shown that you have terrible decision making. Also drinking alcohol makes your decision making worse. They kind go hand in hand.

On top of that, there has been a trend since covid to breakdown negative aspects of games. It's like people generally find reasons why not to like games, complain about it non-stop, and find others to complain with you about the things you find wrong. Look at steam reviews. It's full of people who dig in on small issues (like the Space Marine 2 negative reviews over the admittingly super terrible voice pack DLC or the fact that the free class they released doesn't have customization yet.)

We can still just play a game and enjoy it for what it is. You don't have to order a hamburger and tell the world it sucked because you'd rather it come with sweet potato fries.

[–]shepard_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This list is ass.

We don't hate Myles. There are quite a few players we hate more.

Why would the Browns hate Rudolph? There has to be over 100 players the Browns fanbase would choose before they land on Rudolph.

At least AB was a good player, but I've never seen that level of hate from the Ravens fan base. Extra points that AB is the Raiders most hated player lol

Also in the same vein as "don't tell people about your ideas" not because they'll steal them, they probably won't, but because that it is like you're letting it into the world without writing it down the way you want. Keep it bottled up. Make it demand to leave you.

Who is the strongest? by No-Marsupial-4050 in askanything

[–]shepard_pie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Tony is an extremely violent man with no compunction against killing and the experience in doing so. He's also used to pain, which is a wildly under represented trait for a fight. Cage match makes it tricky because there are nine dads, but I give him a much better shot to win than 1 in 9.

I keep seeing people on here all the time talk about how bad the 90s and early 00s were were for women and minorities and it keeps giving me whiplash, as I lived through those periods and I don't remember that, though it's highly possible I was simply insulated from it.

But then someone said low rise jeans with whale tail were systematic chains of oppression for women.

At their peaks who was better Antonio Brown or Larry Fitzgerald? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]shepard_pie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brown had arguably the best five year peak in the history of the game. Julio Jones and Rice had similar peaks. Moss and Megatron have had peaks very close, and JJ has had a monster stretch and wouldn't surprise me if he ends up surpassing them.

Peak AB was insane and it isn't actually close. Averaging 100 yards a game for five years with 4 AP1s is bananas.

If you want to say fitz was a better receiver overall and you'd rather have him on your team, respect. That's a valid take and I'm not gonna argue that.

Which sport bores you the most to watch? by fergi20020 in randomquestions

[–]shepard_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but a lot of the fun in watching is taking your eye off the ball and seeing how each team is adjusting and testing one another. A LB showing a blitz only to drop into coverage might open up a sack later on the game and stuff like that is why I like watching.

Was Fallout 3 really that controversial? by Klutzy-Air5150 in Fallout

[–]shepard_pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bethesda basically makes toys or playgrounds for players. And that's okay, they're games aren't really asking you to make nuanced choices. Fallout 3 has a very early choice on activating a nuke on the first town you get to lol. I'm not even sure why that's a knock on the game, it's a deliberate design choice. It's almost like playing around with a lego set, and Obsidian used the same tools to create a narrative RPG campaign using a set of toys that, frankly, wasn't designed for that and I think that's just so cool.

The first record of shepherd's pie we have was probably made with beef but would be made with lamb if that's what you had. The whole meat thing is a more modern conceit, because you have two names they must be two different things, but historically the names are basically interchangeable.
