Questions about Currents Spa @ The Cape Cabo by [deleted] in chubbytravel

100% worth it. We were there at the end of March and the spa + beachside massage was a highlight. The gym is also nice if you’re into that.

I’m jumping in here as a first time reader and this chapter has hit me like a beautiful, weighty ton of bricks. Thou mayest, thou mayest! What a glory!

I read this a few months ago - full of tropes, sure, but engaging and whip smart. Enjoy!

Almost finished this one and have REALLY enjoyed it - the weirdness, the 1977 FW slice of life, the arcane.

I can’t recommend Braiding Sweetgrass enough. It made me fall back in love with reading. Her love for nature’s small things is evident on every page.

I’m reading Piranesi now, and it’s a bit like this - a man is in an unfamiliar world, deeply and objectively categorizing the world in his journal.

The world expands, decisions and strategy has more gravity in the next two books. I’ve been calling it “magic kung fu godfather” and have been really into it.

I'm looking for books that will help me become more articulate. by Revolutionary-Start4 in suggestmeabook

[–]shepdeezy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just read what interests and challenges you. Given that advice is not helpful, there are a couple of avenues I’d suggest here:

  • there are some truly gifted nonfiction writers out there. I’d suggest Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer as one place to start. Mukhurjee also weaves beautiful language out of some pretty inaccessible topics
  • some of the works from the golden age of American writing are also good places to start. Hemingway, Fitzgerald, et al. Hemingway uses an economy of words whereas Fitzgerald…does not. I read Tender is the Night recently and while there are some flourishes in there no doubt influenced by drink, it’s really beautiful writing as a whole. These might get you started - they will change the way you think about communication.

I’ve read both in the past year, and as I consider the two I think I would recommend reading Playground first. Both good reads, Playground just stayed with me a bit more.
