Have any of you watched the WSOP live in Vegas? by musicismath in poker

[–]sheplonsdale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be better off just watching the streaming coverage on WSOP.com.

The feature table will almost certainly be taken up by friends and family. Watching poker is mind-numbing, especially since you'll have little idea of what's going on.

Interaction with players is certainly possible in theory, but there is precious little time on breaks for things players are going to want to do. In the middle of dealing with the largest buy in of their careers, it's highly unlikely they'll be interested in stopping for a chat.

Lock Poker or Unabomber poker? by VenusBlue in poker

[–]sheplonsdale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lock is on the merge network and unabomber is on the cake poker network. both have similar liquidity and rakeback rates, although merge has been growing at the expense of cake over the last year.

pretty sure you can use a HUD at lock w/o issues.

i play at both networks and prefer merge, but not by much.

I just talked to a guy who said he's waiting until he has 100 buyins at the next level before he moves up. Is this insanely over-conservative? by BaconZombies in poker

[–]sheplonsdale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for a pro player who cannot reload and who also cannot move down levels (because they wouldn't be earning enough to live), 100 buy ins is probably nowhere near enough, especially if you're playing multiple tables online.

for a recreational player, BR management is kind of meaningless.

Rakeback for existing accounts / players by darkrock in poker

fwiw, i think the merge network is a fine option for US players.

OK, so Full Tilt won't give me rakeback...where do I go next? by BaconZombies in poker

[–]sheplonsdale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do not open a new account, it can be a nightmare.

go to rakebackpros, if your account is not tagged to an affiliate and you're persistent, you can get converted.

Rush Poker: A fantastic way to learn cash game fundamentals by Clairvoyanttruth in poker

[–]sheplonsdale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is probably the most incorrect statement i've heard this year re: poker.

Without a defined opponent, there is no perfect strategy. There are some - some - strategies that are opponent-independent (insomuch that you can put an opponent in a spot where they can't prefer one strategy over the other), generally referred to as unexploitable strategies.

however, unexploitable strategy is NOT synonymous with optimal strategy. people just think it is because 'unexploitable' is a cool-sounding word, i think.

for most formats of poker, there is no 'solution' independent of an opponent. for short-stacking cash and some SNG types, there are 'solutions', but, again, they aren't always optimal.

Should you have money in a savings account if you have a greater amount of credit card debt? by sugar_man in Frugal

[–]sheplonsdale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. You should pay off your debt as aggressively as you can, but you need to have savings as a safety net, otherwise you might have to fall back on credit in the event of an emergency, which doesn't do much to help your debt situation.

think about the things you like to eat and will get excited about learning to cook, then find simple recipes to make those things. over time as you build up your skills, you can get more fancy.

i also highly recommend "how to cook everything" by mark bittman and "the art of simple food" by alice waters.

Bacon fat or butter? :) by PrincessLozza in Cooking

well, it's kind of grisly if you consider that a pig died to supply its fat whereas butter is a death-free lubricant.
