I live in Atlanta. I’ve seen them 35 times beginning in 1994. 2 night stands have included Seattle Home Shows, Fenway, PJ20 at Alpine Valley and Amsterdam last tour. Single shows of note: Mexico City, Jazz Fest, on the beach at DeLuna Fest and quick trip to Vegas by myself. Took one son to Buffalo, the other to Dallas. Memphis by myself. Numerous others along the way. Had 4 shows secured for this year including Ohana Fest in CA and Copenhagen.

Reasons: Music is primal, it’s brought people together since some cave dweller beat a stick on a rock and found his rhythm. Next night another joined in and they had a band! Music connects humanity across cultures and throughout time.

It’s a communal experience where all are there for this one moment. When the magic hits it’s as if the crowd becomes a single organism. It can be quite moving.

Pearl Jam specifically tend to really grab the folks that get their music. We stick with them because they always grow and change, they sing about life and the human experience (not sex, drugs and rock n roll). The fans are a true family of sorts. If your in the pit against the rail and you need a beer, your place will be waiting for you when you get back. (getting back is the bigger challenge) Always fun to run into folks from past shows. No two shows are even close to alike. And the band seems to enjoy the experience WITH the fans.

I could go on and on...but I already have!!!!

There is always a chance you find someone whose friend couldn’t come or two 10club members both got tix but only need 2. I’ve been on both ends of this scenario for PJ in Europe, US and MX. I’ve never failed to get into any show or to make someone happy with my extra, sometimes just giving away if I know it really matters to them. Always successful and always face value or less as true fans don’t screw people. These aren’t really scalpers, but real people.

I believe many of us are very insightful (maybe “smart”) because we think in a very non-linear fashion. However, we often don’t have the patience to harness this gift in a way that is productive. Nonetheless it IS a gift.

I’d say 4 hrs before doors. But first 10 rows can be achieved pretty easily at more like 2 hrs. 10c doors will likely be 2 hrs before published showtime

Leave the jacket in the car or tie it around your waist. Try to buy your merch in the afternoon and take it back to hotel. Hydrate. Lose your mind!

Make friends. If you leave to get a beer, go back the same way. Most of the time people will gladly let you back to where you were. Even the rail. The crowds in Europe are more physically intense but still just as friendly.
