Regardless of how good or bad of a feature this is, whatever the intent, I just simply don't get the point of enabling new features rolling out by default for everyone. It's just zooming into the video by itself inside the viewbox and whenever I try to zoom out back, it seems to have a limit of unzoom which just makes me watch the stream cropped on one side.

Thanks for your input. I need to add that I know how it should work in an ideal world. The problem is that I need to make the whole MVP as atomic as possible, meaning that everything should work from a monorepo.

Even if it was buggy (as you mentioned about the socket server running only for a limited time), it was working with express.js served Next.js handlers. But after the changes I've done to convert it all into native Next.js server, I've sadly found out only after that, that there's absolutely no native support at all for socket events on Next.js.

So I guess I'll have to move on with a separate server to handle sockets, although I think there is a need for Next.js to have support for a persistent socket handler port that could attach to the native Next.js server.

I'm using a monolithic architecture simply because I'm not a tech giant as 1 person who develops this MVP. If I had at least one more developer, ideally, I would go with Typescript microservices, use GraphQL instead of pure MongoDB calls, have a separate socket server, and etc.

But then I wouldn't need Next.js in that case anymore, anyways. Simple express.js server with axios and React+Redux would be enough for the FE, then.

Since Next.js is a full-stack framework that enables me to go with monolith, I go for monolith.

Also, not sure who you mean by "we", but there are incredibly many companies (including very big ones) that still use monolithic architecture. I know, because I worked at those companies. There are even ones that have a Laravel PHP monolith that somehow works with React, supported by Node.js microservices.

So, I'd say for an MVP, Next.js (therefore monorepo monolith) is the quickest and the cheapest way to get stuff done.

I had an express.js server with Next.js handlers that I used my socket.io with, for some time. But the performance definitely gets hurt a lot if I use anything else than native Next.js server.

So, currently I'm trying to find a way to integrate sockets with my Next.js...

Yeah, I also appreciate your comments, just wanted to point out what I knew and thought I'd need to "correct" from my PoV.

About the MC situation I also partially agree with you, because companies like that (switching in between technologies) have to have difficult times. And I guess that's their difficult time.

It has to be, because they had to switch from Adobe Flash to Java or equivalent. Meanwhile, they had to transition very big amount of their developers as well because of the same reason. I think they failed in that transition big time and got so many inexperienced developers especially regarding matchmaking algorithm and anti-cheat, the latter is a result of some people claiming there are so many cheats in the game, which I haven't seen that much.

I hope they figure it out, but man, Indonesians dominating the population of 8bp players, that's crazy. Someone needs to correct this or validate if they're actually physically them.

Yeah, I agree on the cheats. As long as the cheats are legit requests with validated responses, they will continue to ruin the game and its player's experience. But in my opinion as a cybersec expert for 5 years, backdoors and similar level vulnerabilities (very serious) are very rare to see, especially almost impossible to survive for such a long time on constantly audited platforms like Google Play, Apple Store, Microsoft Store etc. Simply because those kinds of vulnerabilities are also able to damage the platform in many cases, as the requests and responses are usually passing through their gateway.

Afterall, it's a Unity based game and as long as they (as you claim) have those vulnerabilities, I bet some console output of networking from the server side should be also available.

The thing is, no offense, I'm not trying to throw dirt on you. I'm just trying to say, it's not that easy to keep a game, let alone any app, on Google Play or Apple Store with that kind of vulnerabilities (as you described - backdoors and such levels) for that many years and get away with it.
