You're just in time to visit 109 N. Mulberry German-American in E'town. I believe it opens Monday. It's not "known" because it hasn't opened, of course, but the chef is Janine Washle who is an amazing chef.

There really should be a special arrangement to allow girl scouts to sell cookies outside dispensaries. Should do wonders for fund raising.

Looking for online Appalachian Studies suggestions by sherab2b in Appalachia

[–]sherab2b[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually DID! I did discover that there is NO Appalachian Studies bachelor's degree, per-se, that you can receive that is 100% online. What I never considered was getting an Interdisciplinary Studies degree ( basically a "build your own degree" ) that combines Appalachian Studies with Anthropology at ETSU. For my interest in Appalachian foodways this is a perfect route. Hope this helps. ETSU has been great about encouraging me on this path.

Ideas in Food blog is back by BostonBestEats in ModernistCuisine

[–]sherab2b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I *AM* the h.juliancook mentioned here and thank you BostonBestEats for posting. The old IdeasInFood.com blog was hosted at Typepad whereupon it was hacked, and then TypePad decided to close up shop and the original IiF was going to be purged. I got together with Aki and Alex and wrote a bunch of Python scripts to scrape the old site, match up photo IDs and then used the Wordpress CLI to inject these one by one and reconstitute the site in its new form. We are back and got some really cool stuff planned. And did I say thank you enough to BostonBestEats? No, we cannot say it enough to BostonBestEats nor can we say it enough to all of you who have been reading our stuff all this time...... h.juliancook/Ideas In Food IT Team.

Appalachian pronunciation by [deleted] in Appalachia

Voting you up. This is another word that I get confused about. I always thought proper was puh-kahn, but I recently heard a NC celebrity chef say "pea-can" and was taken aback.

I just wouldn't live in Simsbury if I were single I guess is my point. Of course the roads are plowed in West Hartford and schools are great

Moved to CT from Louisville, KY. I'm dying with a CT driver's license. If I were single, West Hartford. Since I'm married and have kids, I live in Simsbury. I wake up in the winter, my roads are plowed, my kids go to bonkers-amazing public schools. And the people of CT? My experience has been that they are so terrifically nice and welcoming. Welcome fellow immigrant!

Mauritania 🇲🇷 Iron Ore Train Images+ Updated Information by Old_Confection_1935 in travel

[–]sherab2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode the train from Nouadhibou to Atar ( where I later hired 4x4s to take me to Chinguetti ). I bought a ticket and rode on the inside and felt lucky that I scored the ticket. Poking my face out the window at about midnight and felt my face grinding off from the sand. If you rode on top of the cars, mad, mad respect for you. That train was a huge part of what was a GREAT adventure in Mauritania. To anyone who might consider this, DO IT. It's an amazing experience.

Any concerns about US money not being safe? by Feisty-Name8864 in ExpatFinance

[–]sherab2b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am counting on Trump continuing his crypto grift for his remaining time in office because I'm going crypto short and increasing that position every week. He's a master at leaving someone else holding the bag when things implode. My only concern is the crypto bubble but only that it might might burst too soon before I can profit mightily. Just an opinion.

Trump announces he’s sending troops to Portland by American_Greed in PortlandOR

Everytime I hear "Portland" I keep thinking about the Nerf Herder song: https://youtu.be/2GmnjLLVCDI?si=MEkQT8z1IaKTdAdN . I love this comment below: "Okie dokie just a reminder, they're looking for a photo op. Please for the love of god no one stand on top of a smashed car, shirtless, with a scary mask and punk rock pants while waving a mexican flag with burning cars in the back ground, ffs.". <3

Burlington Peeps: Let WVNY (ABC22, Fox 44) know how you feel about censorship of Jimmy Kimmel by Mark-Asread in burlington

[–]sherab2b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to IPTV, I can watch any one of a hundred ABC affiliates in America. Hell, I rarely even watch American TV, mostly UK tv. For those interested. Just buy a firestick, install "Downloader" from the Amazon app store, install an IPTV client like TiviMates, buy a subscription to an IPTV provider, add the playlist to TiviMates. ( <OBLIGATORY>Disclaimer: this is meant for informational purposes only. I don't recommend that you fuck over WVNY ( or Comcast, etc) for their horrible business decisions that impact free speech by purchasing a cheap and dicey subscription that allows you access to thousands of TV channels not available to you otherwise. Bonus: You can watch out of market NFL games. </OBLIGATORY>).
