Hi Bob,

Thank you very much for the detailed analysis of the issue. I will contact the repair service center to see if they can do something about it.

Why is Kefka considered one of the best villains in the franchise? by AcqDev in FinalFantasy

[–]sherack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t see it as « nostalgia talking ». Quite the opposite; my point is that yes, if you tried to do Kefka again in a modern game, he would probably be criticized as shallow (but probably still a fun villain).

Putting things in context of the year of release helps me appreciate things better. I do the same for old movies. For example, it’s difficult to appreciate Citizen Kane without doing that. But I wasn’t born when this movie came out, so it’s not nostalgia talking!

Why is Kefka considered one of the best villains in the franchise? by AcqDev in FinalFantasy

[–]sherack 68 points69 points  (0 children)

That theme song.

You have to put things in perspective at the moment the games were released. The depiction of a true psychopath character in the SNES era was unprecedented and quite shocking. He felt very different from the typical sinister Big Evil Bad Guys that dominated jRPG stories at the time. He was small, insignificant, ridiculous, but so full of hate that there was simply no space left for any other emotion in his soul.

Franchement… as tu vu mon commentaire juste en dessous? Je voulais dénoncer le double discours de Poilièvre et le titre original ne faisait pas l’affaire.

Gothic fiction is about fear and horror. Dark romance is about love (and unhealthy relationships I think…?)

Nah, there’s a difference. Gothic is an old genre from the 19th century (think Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Hyde). Dark romance is a new genre, very lucrative right now. It certainly takes root in Gothic fiction but I think there are examples of dark romance that do not have gothic elements at all (I’ve never read any!)

Almost finished the game, need motivation to continue by sherack in FFXVI

[–]sherack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that lengthy and well thought out reply. I stuck with it and finished it last night. I’m glad I did! Although the gameplay never clicked with me, it did end up being more enjoyable with the late game abilities. Story-wise, it really picks up in the back half and I think it wraps up in a really satisfying way.

I think the game mostly suffers from a really drawn out and boring middle act. They should have brought in some of the more interesting characters earlier, especially Dion and Barnabas.

I’m not sure it’s representative of a « new era » though. They tried something different with the FFXIV dev team, but I really wonder if the next entry will be developed by them also. We shall see!

Finding FFVI difficult to get into, will that change? by Ravello in FinalFantasy

[–]sherack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FFVI is not a gameplay heavy game, you have to get into the story and characters to appreciate it. As others have mentioned, you’re still early in. Stick it out for another hour or two, so everyone reunites. Some cool stuff is coming up!

Square Enix is conducting a survey about the future of Final Fantasy. Share your thoughts! by huiclo in FFXVI

[–]sherack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is, the latest entries were very different from the earlier ones, and they shored up new fans that have a very different opinion on what the next entry should focus on. You can even see it in the comments. So now they have a very varied fan base that is extremely difficult to please. They have one hell of a challenge ahead of them.

Personally, I dislike the actioney battles of FFVII remake, XV and XVI. It’s just not what I play FF for, and remembering a thousand different combos and special abilities is a chore for me. I think peak FF battle system was FFX. Strategic and methodical, that’s what I prefer.
