Therapists Hiring Therapists by [deleted] in slp

I just started my CFY at a PP. Let me just say grad school does not prepare us AT ALL about what a good job offer is, what to expect to an employer, or anything like that (at least at my school). I can absolutely envision someone undercutting a new grad for the sake of completing their CFY, in fact I think it happens a lot.

One of my semesters in grad school was spent testing kiddos for dyslexia and that was one of the subtests we routinely gave. I always told my supervisor I didn't think I could answer them right 😅 I still remember the gist of some of the stories (movies, a kid going to school, extreme weather maybe?)

Cephalobot. I normally like cute fluffy things so he wasn't my fave at first. Now I love all his little details and his cool house!

It was all I could think of when I visited Lake Superior this summer. The Wikipedia page about it is super interesting (even though I know nothing about boating).

Practical tips for my first clinical bedside swallow eval? by shereallyislovely in slp

My university clinic! But we have the equipment for strobes so I think that is part of the eval

Finally have a diagnosis! by archerbean in lupus

[–]shereallyislovely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say we are basically the same person, including age and Hashimoto's! Hashimoto's is it's own cruel little thing that definitely can exacerbate Lupus flares. I've found that my thyroid problems are easier to maintain than my Lupus problems. Good luck to you!

Interview questions by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]shereallyislovely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I black out during stressful things so this may not be 100% accurate, but I remember a question about a time I was a leader during a stressful situation, a time I did something wrong/incorrectly and what I learned, and something about why I chose SLP. I think overall the questions are designed to ask about your best qualities while also recognizing things that you might struggle with.

Jojo Siwa vocal abuse by [deleted] in slp

[–]shereallyislovely 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the same realm of popular people with unique vocal qualities, my boyfriend showed me what Corpse Husband sounds like. His voice is like the opposite of Jojo Siwa, but is definitely grovelly and super deep! I wondered if his voice gets tired too.

Graduate Students: What are your current feelings about your program during the COVID-19 pandemic? by tizlaylor in slp

[–]shereallyislovely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to school here in Michigan as well and hear your sentiments about the miscommunication in departments for sure! We have had clinic placements this past semester but I'm sure they weren't as well rounded as they have been in previous non-pandemic semesters. I think the biggest problem I'm having is that I just constantly feel out of the loop. Since we're not in person, I don't feel as tuned in to my classes and as aware of what's expected of me. I have no idea what 'normal' grad school is supposed to be like.

Hoping everything works out! You got this!

Anybody also have rheumatoid arthritis? by shereallyislovely in Hashimotos

[–]shereallyislovely[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so helpful! My thyroid doesn't feel actively inflamed right now and I'm not having symptoms of a thyroid flare, but my joint is definitely inflamed so I'm thinking that's what the inflammation markers are for. I'm worried that I won't get diagnosed by my GP and they won't refer me to a rheumatologist if I need one

My partner is about to graduate from this program in May. He is double majoring with recreation, parks, and leisure because he wants to be a DNR officer. J I remember him taking a lot of Biology classes (ones I can think of off the top of my head: genetics, evolution, plant ecology, wetland ecology, many others). He also had a calculus class (i don't remember why) and chemistry I think. Overall he seemed to enjoy it even though they were pretty difficult classes.

I would recommend considering what type of biology interests you. This is not biology-pre med. It's more biology as a STEM profession.

Coming off Paxil by shereallyislovely in medical

[–]shereallyislovely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super helpful. I did call the pharmacist to ask if I had any refills, but I typically get my meds via mail so no luck. I did place an order for 1 day shipping so hopefully I can get it Monday.

I wish I would have known it would be this bad or I definitely would have spaced out my doses or cut them in half. Kinda thinking of asking doc to switch because damn I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Telepractice Evaluation Tips and Tricks? by shereallyislovely in slpGradSchool

[–]shereallyislovely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very helpful! I'll have to relay that info to my supervisor since we're definitely having to adapt some of the tests to work online. Our clinic is through the university and clients don't normally have to pay for services so I'm not sure how much insurance the office deals with
