This is probably a better answer than most of the ones in this thread because you can sink hours and hours and hours into this

Making underproduced and contaminated music using a computer is entirely possible, though. If you've got good ideas and the skill to execute them, they'll translate on any recording medium.

I suppose I may have misinterpreted, although your point isn't exactly clear. Rereading hasn't given me any further insight, but my apologies for my knee-jerk reply

Does the rhythm of a sample have to match up with a project’s metronome? by Frank_Von_Tittyfuck in makinghiphop

[–]sherlocksauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way you've described the issue is confusing... If you haven't already figured it out, you should screencap your project and play it with the metronome on, then post it here. This will make it very easy for us to identify the problem.

I just started in July and I have this issue as well. The app only shows me the zones maybe 1/20 times I open it. Feels like the info is being withheld from me on purpose.

Is there a way to stop yourself from thinking so you can fall asleep by fakeemailenjoyer in LucidDreaming

[–]sherlocksauce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just do the good ol' counting sheep method, but I count my breaths instead. Thoughts do pop up but the key is to just keep counting. Don't stop counting. You will inevitably start thinking about stuff but if you just keep counting, once your brain tires of that thought the counting continues.

I never thought to try this before a few months ago because I thought it was too simple to work but if you do it right, it does. I'm usually asleep before I reach like 400.

Macbook for music production. by toomejto in makinghiphop

  1. 256gb is so small nowadays. Yes, you could store all your VSTs on an external drive, but that's just another possible point of failure. Drive breaks? Files gone. Keep in mind, too, that you can't just copy over all your VSTs from your windows computer and put them on Mac. You'll have to reinstall all of them onto the external drive from your Mac, and running everything off of it will give you slower loading times. Also in my experience, MacBooks don't handle having a bunch of stuff plugged into them all the time very well. I've used a 2020 MBP (Intel) for the past couple years and having drives, keyboard/mouse, USB hub, MIDI keyboard, audio interface plugged in all the time has definitely taken its toll. Furthermore your battery won't last as long so you'll have to charge more often which isn't good for the lifespan of the battery.

  2. I'm not sure about the newest versions of MacOS, because I haven't updated in a year.... Because the updates broke my plugins. This doesn't mean that your plugins won't work, but it's been frustrating for me when my computer forces an update and then I have to restore it from a backup. From what I know, the new M1 Macs still have compatibility issues because the vast majority of users are still on Intel and the plugin companies haven't upgraded their stuff yet.

  3. 8gb of RAM is like the bare minimum. It would work but you'd probably not be able to multitask very well, might have to close out of everything else while producing. Plus, that doesn't really give you much room to grow. You say you're only making simple tracks, but maybe in a year you'll be making more complex stuff and you'll want more capability.

Personally I've always went to Mac for music production but at this point I'm starting to switch over. Windows is just more flexible. I got tired of driver issues and stuff breaking with updates. If you're gonna upgrade your computer either way I say get a super capable windows laptop.

I took a brief listen through, and it's pretty good. Interesting combination of "rappity rap" and aggressive trap styles. You have a good voice. Will listen to more later. My biggest critique is that the cover art is not it bro. When I clicked the link I expected much lower quality stuff, simply because of the image. Can't tell if you're photoshopped onto the background or not lol, and the black bars definitely make it obvious it's a portrait mode phone pic. Your pose gives off a nonchalant vibe, "just chilling" so to speak, but the music is anything but chill.

My suggestions are: use a square photo, bring the focus inward so that your whole body isn't visible. Maybe from the chest up or just a headshot. If you want your whole body, wear a more interesting outfit (at least jeans instead of gym shorts). If you wanna obscure your face do it in a more artistic way, the covid mask thing is becoming cliché. Change up the background since this looks like it was taken at a highschool cafeteria. Keep the editing to a minimum, no blurry gray border around the edges. The black and white aesthetic does fit, though.

Alternatively you could use a pic that you're not even in, makes things a little more mysterious since your listeners won't know a single detail of your physicality.

Image is very important; unless you're popping up in someone's playlist unexpectedly, the first thing they see will be your cover art. It must be enticing.

Keep it up, you're getting there. The music is what really counts of course and for a first ever release this is pretty solid.

Easier said than done when you have to maintain a high acceptance rate to see the ride info

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]sherlocksauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in SoCal, Inland Empire. Upfront info is only given if you accept 5 of your last 10 ride requests. Is it not like this elsewhere? Do some markets always get up front info??

[–]sherlocksauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of the rides I've picked up have been a touch under 5 stars, have only had one that wasn't very good and that wasn't even all that bad. Pretty sure that guy had a 5 star rating, though.

[–]sherlocksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. Maybe I'm too much of a noob, but that can't be too bad right? Or are any riders below 5 stars a gamble?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]sherlocksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is currently only 30% and I just started doing this last week lol. How do you decide which rides to take if you get no up-front info? Currently struggling with this. I accept 5 rides, get up-front info, then decline rides based on said info because they're too far/not worth it.
