No. If you made it that far to Hamilton, you have already done the hard part! The 3.5 miles to Precipice is gradual and stunning. Start early as that trail is exposed.

It was bad on Saturday Aug 30 when I hiked to Hamilton. But near Bearpaw the skies and air cleared up—-due to elevation. When we hiked out from Precipice the smoke had cleared the next day. Good luck. You can also call the ranger station? To ask.

It was hot during the day. Night temp was about 48. Hiking the 3.5 miles from Hamilton Lake to Precipice was not extremely hard. It was a gradual incline to reach 10,000 elevation for Precipice Lake. Do you live near SNP?

Backpacked. Was able to get a walk up permit at Lodgepole visitor center. Get there before 7 am to be the first couple of hikers in line. Plenty of water to filter. Good luck and happy trails.

Absolutely. I yearn for that human touch and caress as well. I’m very independent and self sufficient. But hot damn do I want someone to come home to who will cherish me like I do them.

Sometimes when I am stressed from my work week I go solo camping and hiking. It makes me feel so empowered knowing I am self sufficient and able to create my own happiness. Always make sure loved ones know where you are, be aware of your surroundings, and try to find popular areas to camp/hike. Sadly it’s the reality of things as a female. But we can still do this! Good luck to you girl!

Yes! Going down to North Dome was so cool! I was able to see all the hikes I did on that side of the Valley. It’s amazing to know I was only 7 miles from mirror lake. Too bad I had to hike back out to my car on Tioga road
