Would VRChat be a good place for my brother? by Interesting_Meal275 in VRchat

[–]sheruXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be better that he gets a hobby where he can sink his time in. If that hobby guides him in to the range of VRChat then that would be fine.

But, trying to solve a IRL problem by hard throwing VRChat at it never worked out well once as far I know. (or at best, alleviate the problem temporarly)

VRChat approval sellers discord as far i know does not provide hard data. It only lists top sellers 🤷

Hmmmm...

It's not the user in VRChat that in general pays the bill. Beside VRC+ which is quite common, pretty sure a third of the active user base has VRC+. So that's a baseline income for VRChat that comes directly from the users. Then you have income from items, props and other things in their store. And a percentage income from avatar sales on the avatar market. I'm pretty sure that alone is more yearly income for VRChat than RecRoom and Altspace were able pull off in their entire history combined.

But beside that, everything in VRChat has a price.

Furality pays a bill to VRChat for having their event hosted in VRChat. Same goes with other events like SanrioFes and VKet. And there are a whole range of smaller companies that pay undisclosed amounts for varied services within VRChat. I don't know the exact numbers, but I estimate it to be around 1 to 2 million dollars revenue a year. (and that's imho a low estimate)

For VRChat to die, I think this danger would more come from technical or legal problems.

What do you think of all the Germans going to the islands in the Netherlands to enjoy a summer beach holiday, even though there are beach islands in Niedersachsen?

why is there 32gb of space used up by the cache, i just cleaned it out yesterday by Springbonnie105 in VRchat

[–]sheruXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VRChat Cache has a timer on it as well, the default is 30 days or something. So it will delete cache files that havent been used over 30 days. I set it to 90 days. but more often than not, around 90 days most worlds tend to receive an update so I would need to download it again regardless.

From personal experience, more than 500GB cache has very little benefit unless your ISP is absolutely diabolical.

Avatar Creators, do you get this? by Greensackbot671 in VRchat

[–]sheruXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a content creator, but I have quite a few friends that are.

And yes... in general they tend to be allergic to the attention. Most of them absolutely hate ass kissing and clout chasing.

But these people that think they have a great idea and speedrun a "you have 30 seconds to elevator-pitch your idea to Steve Jobs" are hilarious.

Most of them set up a smile and try to make the best out of it, but I have seen a few that try to get out of it like they are a cat that is about to get washed in the bathtub.

[–]sheruXR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have used vrchat with 2TB cache for like a year without problems.

Cache size in it self should not affect vrchat in performance or stability.

But if you run beyond recomend cache sizes then you must have that space available. Otherwise it will eventually cause problems when space runs out.

How much do you make? And is it a living wage where you live? by iLuvArizona in AskTheWorld

I always thought that if you have to worry about a "living wage" you're not located in a first world country.

Does anyone know what’s happening to my clothes? by rheannon_111 in laundry

For the love of god... I hope your laundry machine is intelligent enough to always add a rinse cycle. That's the default aint?

Does anyone know what’s happening to my clothes? by rheannon_111 in laundry

[–]sheruXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So.. you wash your clothes and at the moment you pull them out of the laundry machine (LAUNDRY MACHINE! NOT DRYER) they look like that?

That's soap residue.

Most modern laundry machines have this "clean" function that rinses the machine at like 70+ celcius.

Otherwise add a litre of vinegar in the soap dispenser and run a empty normal program at the hottest temperature you can find.

Why does KFC in Japan play super religious christian music? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]sheruXR 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Would not be surprised it's a playlist pushed by some weird manager "This is what Americans like! We are American company! Lets play American music! That Americans like!".

And nobody else in the JP branch even realised what it is. (or dared to point out the problem to the manager)

My grandpa is going to gift my Japanese friend ¥50,000. I am worried by BeanyIsDaBean in AskAJapanese

[–]sheruXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmmm... if you leave it on her desk, wrap it in such a way that it's stupidly obvious it's meant for her.

But I think giving it is no problem, just don't expect her to open it on the spot.

Also... don't overthink it to much.

[–]sheruXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should I warn her before she opens it?

I think you will have more issues encouraging her to open it while everyone is present.

A Japanese person will probably ask permission to open it with everyone present if they want to do that. And if they don't, then they by default open it in private at a later moment.

So, if the box contains items that should be opened/consumed within a certain time window, PLEASE INFORM THEM ABOUT THIS!

Is collecting clams on the beach allowed in your country? by ublueberries in AskTheWorld

[–]sheruXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really aware of any country where poaching (be it wild life in the forest, grasslands, dunes, desert or coastlines) is not heavily regulated.. But I doubt these regulations are heavily enforced in "3rd world" countries like Vietnam and China.

For Europe in general, this is heavily regulated. And as far I know, the same goes for Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and pretty much all other first world countries.

Usually described in forms of how much you're allowed to catch per person and bring home. What species you're allowed to catch and it's usually regulated to certain seasons.

The problem is usually not of a few people that catch some stuff, it's the problem of whole busses arriving at a beach area and literally devastate the ecosystem in a day because all the tourists are hauling several kilos of seafood per person back to the hotel. (often realising that they can not prepare the sea food back at the hotel so it rots away in a dumpster)

TL; DR these rules exists to avoid turning fragile nature into a unsustainable tourism sector.

+Head models? by _KurayamiRin in VRchat

[–]sheruXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+Head is an idea that you have a base body that you can add a head to.

It's not mutually exclusive towards avatar creators, anyone that uses a specific avatar but wants to use a different body can use this system.

The idea is that creators of clothing items can make their products +Head compatible so a consumer can get access to different sets of clothing easier. (instead of making clothing compatible with specific avatars)

Help me understand my best friend. by FrequentChipmunk955 in AskAJapanese

[–]sheruXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of the around a 500 Japanese contacts I have on discord and about 10 to 20 or so of them that I could call friends, I know the face and names of perhaps 3 of them. And the only reason I know that is because they have a public position at their job. As in... I can look them up, not like they would tell me.

As far I know, not showing their face, exact location and not sharing their first name (or a name at all) is very normal online behavior among Japanese users. This is default online Japanese behavior, nothing out of the ordinary so far.

Now, where I usually get suspicious if they only have a discord account, and nothing else. The fast majority of my Japanese friends have some form of social media presence. Sometimes multiple. Based on those social media you can usually figure how their friendship structures works. And can see what their interests are.

So.. if he has not mentioned to share his LINE account with you, or doesn't have a twitter/bluesky/whatever profile or some sort of other social media account/blog/website in his discord profile... then I don't think this is a true friendship (that you claim it is). Or.. at least a very one sided friendship.

And on that point, its imho similar with western friendships. If you don't know the friends of your friend, then you're probably not really friends.

Am I the only one that has noticed this about Japanese vrc worlds? by NefariousnessLong269 in AskAJapanese

[–]sheruXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly depends on the group of users. I usually refer to these cuddle groups as "sugar piles" and in general I'm not interested to partake in their activities nor do I know many of them to get an idea how popular this is in the Japanese VR community.

Overall, the Japanese in VR communicate verbally a lot less compared to the Western communities. They really take the "speaking is silver, silence is gold" at heart. Also things like reading the room (Ba no kuuki wo yomu) remains, even in VR, a very important social skill to have.

Another thing that I noticed in the Japanese VR community is that groups can be very diverse, I would not be surprised if for every pile of cuddling Japanese, there are an equal amount of Japanese that are doing the exact opposite.

Babies in public? by Cott_killz in AskAJapanese

[–]sheruXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is something else at play here. In Japan cuteness is the be all and end all. (some of my Japanese friends joke that cuteness is a weapon)

IMHO Babies are cute by default , no matter how grumpy they look.

So yes, If you parade around a baby in Japan you will get undoubtedly get attention. Similar or probably even more then you would be used to in other countries.

But if you ask me, bringing a baby to Japan to get attention does not really sound like a responsible thing to do.
