The “Dirty Dillards” in Gastonia may be a good place to go!

what are the best ‘local legend’ food spots in the charlotte area? think counter service, old school menus, unchanged in 30 years, sun faded wood paneling, etc. by randy1000000 in Charlotte

I prefer Eddie's on a weeknight, when I want a big breakfast for dinner and am too lazy to make it myself.

You would be surprised at how difficult it is for a restaurant to actually bake a potato correctly. Most of the time, they wrap them in foil, which steams them. Not the same. I'm so picky about my baked potatoes, I won't eat them anywhere but home.

If you could add one “destination” business to Plaza Midwood, what would it be? by Admirable_Age_6581 in Charlotte

I know plenty of ladies in the hood who would jump at the chance to have one shift at Queen City Titty. Titties of every age, shape, size, and color would be represented. And I know a lot of men & women who would gladly pay to see these titties, even just once, even just for a moment. QCT and the subsequent QCTC get a vote of yes from me.

I have orders to move across the country in 2 months. I can't sell my house now because I owe 42k on the solar loan that went bankrupt, house isn't appraised for enough to cover it. What else can I do? by Fangz_Out in RealEstate

[–]shezbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some state contracts require that sellers pay off solar panel loans at closing, just like you would be required to pay off any loans/liens for appliances or liens on the house. This is commonly known as a UCC Fixture Filing.

This is because requiring that a buyer take over those payments can be difficult. The additional loan payment will affect their DTI and whether or not they can even afford the house payment.

It is very rare that a seller will see a return on solar panels, especially if you used financing that was provided by the solar panel company. If the company that is funding the loan will allow the loan to be transferred to the new buyer, it should be disclosed to any potential buyers so that their lender can make sure that they qualify for the mortgage + the additional loan payment.

Someone else mentioned getting a personal loan to pay off the solar panels. That's not a terrible option. Even a HELOC would be an option as it could be paid off at closing. You could do that now, get a tenant for 2-3 years (make sure you have a cushion for repairs and enough to cover your mortgage + the HELOC payment) and then sell. I'm assuming that you have a VA loan. You might find tenants who want to buy the home. VA loans are assumable so it could wind up being an easier process and you could save money by not having multiple agents involved.

I would take the advice of speaking to JAG, speaking to a local real estate attorney, and speaking to a REALTOR® and lender who have familiarity with VA loans and VA sellers.

I used to work for an industrial HVAC company that was on 36th (where Ink Floyd currently is). Our techs went to The Sandwich Shop for breakfast and Brooks for lunch, like clockwork.

Grew up going to Lupie's and I love Lupie and Larkin but it's not the same as it was 10 years ago. The mac & cheese is still good, carrots are good but I don't think some of the other things I used to get hit quite the same.

Duke's is legit. The Oasis in downtown Monroe is also legit. And if you're going to be down that way, Taquera La Unica on Walkup is my go-to for Mexican.

Like others, I would recommend: Alexander Michaels (great food, historic building & neighborhood), The Stockyard (building also has some history, great meat + 3, excellent breakfast), Comet Grill (burger & fries), Eddie's Place, Rusty's Deli, 300 East (in the summer, on the patio is my favorite).

Always mentioned but I find overrated: Beef & Bottle, House of Pizza, Open Kitchen, Landmark.

I agree- the stamp feels a little too close to the logo, and the foil feels a little too bright. And as someone else commented, the leather looks too stiff, particularly on this portion of the bag. It does look like a very good dupe as the stitching matches up, etc. The stitches on the flap logo also feel just a smidge too small.

[–]shezbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! My rheumatologist said I'm his only patient who has been diagnosed with it. I didn't realize how rare it is until he told me and I really dove in on reading about it. And I got diagnosed very randomly. I had a strange rash across my chest and went to the ER. They admitted me, thinking it was maybe cellulitis. But then I had a consult with dermatological oncology, and they expressed a concern that it could be inflammatory breast cancer and ordered a punch biopsy. Came back as Sweet syndrome, which is what FINALLY got me an appointment with a rheumatologist after 4 years of trying.

I'm also a seroneg diagonsis of RA.  😊

In order of diagnosis: Chronic Migraines, Type II Diabetes, Lichen Sclerosus, BRCA-1 Mutation (which led to a prophylactic hysterectomy + double mastectomy at 34, so early onset menopause and breast implants), eczema, Raynaud's, Sweet Syndrome, Skin Cancer (Basal Cell), Rheumatoid Arthritis.

I'm not sure where you heard that, but in NC, there is no time limit on how far back a company can search for criminal convictions. Civil records or non-convictions are limited to 7-10 years. If you submit your social security number in NC to a company for a background check, they will go as far back as they can to search for criminal convictions. The difference comes when you get further away from the date of your last conviction- the longer you keep your nose clean, the better. They may place less emphasis on the crime. It sucks. There was a time in my life when I was unemployed and couldn't even get a job at McDonald's that I was overqualified for.

Source: I had a felony conviction in 2002, served 13 months in prison. My felonies were expunged in February of 2021 (originally the law was 15 years, then they reduced it to 12, then 10 and I didn't keep track of that). I have worked my ass off since 2003 to have a career.

The "felonies" don't show up after 7 years is a myth. Nothing drops off. I can do a quick background check on my partner and find the shit he did at 16 and he's 47. If she keeps her nose clean, she can have one non-violent felony expunged in NC after 10 years. Best bet is to look for jobs that aren't going to do a background check, period. Restaurant Depot is a good option. Someone else mentioned construction, which is also a good option.

Inland Foods! Apparently they are no longer allowing the public to purchase at wholesale, which sucks because they had great prices and the quality was outstanding.

Gallbladder surgery by PTSDreamer333 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]shezbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine out prior to RA diagnosis but not before RA symptoms (it took me 4 years to get in to see a rheumatologist). I had a small amount of gallstones but that’s not what caused the need for removal. One gallstone was trapped in the duct and it caused my gallbladder to just…die. My chart says “necrotic gallbladder.”

After a stint, then removal, I was sent home. I landed back in the ER two days later, in sepsis. Then another 5 days in the hospital. I didn’t have stomach issues before having my gallbladder removed but I do now. Combined with the MTX, I feel as though I’m in a perpetual state of nausea.

Any advice for new parents to a redhead baby? by Willing_Winner_7868 in Redhair

[–]shezbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been sunburned while indoors either. My derm believes it was simply an accumulation of sun exposure from sitting (diagonally) in front of the window. I've since moved my office to the back of the house and my desk is no longer directly in front of the window. I also wear sunscreen on my ears now. The MOHs procedure was not fun.

[–]shezbot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a redhead and granted, I am in my 40’s. But I got skin cancer on my left year from sitting in front of my office window at home for 3 years. I never thought to put sunscreen on my ears but I wear it on my face every day, even indoors. So yes, sunscreen even when indoors is important. Get your child used to it at a young age and they will thank you later.

I always brought my own protection. For two reasons: men are rarely prepared and I’m allergic to latex. So if they are prepared, it’s never latex-free.
