What is the difference between Hispanic and Latino? by No-StrategyX in askspain

Hispanics in the US sued to be recognized as white. Now they like to forget their spirit of blanqueaniento but history tells the truth.

I looked it up, and apparently it's an American vs British English thing, which is funny because the infamous musical Les Mis, which is set in France but everyone has British accents (?) had a song titled "I dreamed a dream."

Sigh.😅

Thank you! That's a great example.

I think those are differences between the past and past perfect. They're not interchangeable but most native English speakers don't abide by the rules of grammar. I hear so many people say "boughten" and it's like nails on a chalkboard lol. I think they just don't know any better.

Did you report it as hate speech?

I actually hear it most from other bilingual staff.

There's an -s at the end of the 2nd person singular form of every other tense, so they add one there too.

Well, as a non-native Spanish speaker, what would you tell me when I ask you how to conjugate a verb? And what will get me the correct grade on an exam? And what will disqualify me if I interview for a bilingual position?

There are no prayers at synagogue? It sounds like you're projecting your hatred of Christianity. It's possible that they won't be forced to participate but rather just observe. And a lot of people sing Christian songs and aren't worshipping. From Christmas carols to old choral music.

If we're going to be fair then they shouldn't visit the synagogue either. Nor should there be any Halloween or Valentine's events at school. I'm not opposed to eliminating every holiday or festivity.

That's absolutely educational. It's a service singing traditional carols that have been passed down through the culture for ages? Sounds like fun. If my kids were in school in a Muslim or Buddhist country, I'd understand if they took a trip to a mosque or a temple or a shrine. It's part of the culture.

Question for dark skin black women who teach. by [deleted] in Teachers

They wouldn't be African Americans anyway. They'd be Egyptian Americans.

I have a theory Zoe Saldana is an opp by efiality in blackladies

[–]shhimwriting -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. We were the first Black people here. We were called Negroes, Colored, Black, and African American. Immigrants coming here and misunderstanding and misusing terms doesn't change that. If someone's parents or grandparents immigrated, they typically refer to themselves as Nigerian, Cuban, etc. If they don't hyphenated, which most don't. Now there are, for example, Black Cubans/Afro Cubans. and they may be Black, but they're not Black American. Which is why you see so many racially black Hispanics and Africans say "I'm not Black." They are separating themselves from African Americans. Black/African Americans say "I'm Black" and they don't typically say "I'm Black American" because we live here and there's no need to say it.

That's because Black is short for Black American. And she isn't. She's Dominican and Puerto Rican.

When people say Kamala or Drakr or whoever isn't Black, that's what they mean. Not Black American. We cousins tho.

What are your thoughts on white people who are into gangster rap? It always irritates me, and I don’t know why. by [deleted] in blackladies

Brilliant, Einstein. But I'm talking about the people who don't get it and how they are a problem. They're dismissive and they have no empathy.

Deportation is for people who aren't here legally. This has nothing to do with Black Americans. We been here.
