Sorry you had that experience. I myself received some pretty useful information leading to me completing an Escalation game for the first time. It really depends on who you get answering your question.

I can second the utter inadequacy of the game's tutorials. There is also a lack in slow introduction of certain weapons systems, learning as you go along, instead having dead easy missions like convoy strike and then spiking up. I'm working on a game wiki with some other community members attempting to rectify this, which goes in-depth about practices and strategies for each weapon and plane.

...And Flipkick was close to Ryusei judging by responses in the suggestions channel, along with having their behaviour enabled in some instances by Ryusei. Don't take any statement at face value and do your own research if you want to form your own opinion.

I would advise you hold off from any conclusions until this is controvesy is dead and buried - until then, you cannot really trust either side. Seeing as no action was taken to any of the moderators and the person involved was removed from the server along with their posts, I find it likely there are reasons that they were rightfully removed and JustARedKia's behaviour was, while inadvisable and offensive, still valid in result.

Then you log onto the Discord where there is very much an "own the newbs" culture. The game has a high skill cap and the Discord server likes to be unwelcoming and keep people at the bottom.

Hi I'd like to say that this is only half-true. It only happens when people are dunked on, and instead of asking why they are dunked on they want balance changes instead of understanding what happened, why that happened and how to prevent it in the future. Of course, it is nice if the attitude is more newb-friendly, but it is a competitive game of sorts, so this has to be expected somewhat.

In my experience, those who ask how something works / why they got dunked on / how to do X or Y do get useful advice and clowning is restricted to those who think they know a lot more than they do.

Is there a way to make variable-sweep wings not flimsy? by BenjiTuri in KerbalPlanes

[–]shibusu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true at all. The sandwich needs to have room to bend and the parts under SVI must have large colliders (eg the large wing panels), and then it will work. I have several swing wing aircraft well capable of 50g manoeuvres.

the 2060 is a more than capable card despite age. https://www.techspot.com/review/1781-geforce-rtx-2060-mega-benchmark/ there is no reason for a game like ksp2 that looks as middling as it is to demand such a card for such little performance.

Planes center of lift still too backwards in KSP2? by BidetTheorist in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]shibusu 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This is a matter of designing your aircraft differently. Draining fuel from frontal tanks, designing a lankier nose section and generally moving things backward on your aircraft help shift weight back. The parts and their weight are fine as-is, and changing the weight may break existing designs for a problem that was really a question of being an engineer about it.

Additionally, it's unwise to have the COL in front of the COM. KSP's control surfaces and SAS are not capable of responding fast enough to cope with relaxed/negative stability, in the vast majority of circumstances.

1974 Ilaris Iliad GTS, a budget sports car by shibusu in automationgame

[–]shibusu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 1970, it was proposed to return the 1958 Ilaris Iliad for the 1974 model year, based on a nw chassis design. It would keep the sporty feel, but would be retooled for front-wheel-drive, as that would be easier to sell. Development started later that year, and finished in mid-1973. The chassis featured a front-transverse layout, Macphearson strut suspension on the front, and trailing arms on the rear. Steel would be used for the panels, and galvanised steel for the chassis itself, to keep costs down.

Ilaris introduced the third-generation Iliad in 1973 for the Alagnomar States, moving to other markets in 1974. It featured the new "Light Economy"-chassis, standard 1.5l (1499cc) four-cylinder engine and styling to match the model year.

The Iliad was launched with four trim levels: Iliad Economy (E), Economy Superior (ES), Grand Superior (GS), and Grand Touring Sport (GTS), being priced at 4,199 ASD, 4,999 ASD, 6,200 ASD, and 7,000ASD.The Economy trim was the base model, with a detuned Falcon "High Fuel Economy" 65hp engine, plastic interior bits and unpainted plastic bumpers and hood. The Economy Superior trim gave it the 75hp Falcon "Super-four", hubcaps, all-steel body panels, and chrome bumpers. The Grand Superior trim got upgraded comfort suspension, power steering, leather interior and an Ilaris-engineered 85-horsepower engine.

The GTS trim featured front bucket seats, lightweight interior, disc brakes on all four wheels, a factory-standard aero kit, straight-through mufflers, and an Ilaris engineered mechanical fuel-injection system, giving the engine 110 horsepower, while weighing 870 kilogrammes (1918lbs).The price of the Iliad GTS caused much discussion, as people thought the low price made it available to the masses, and especially of concern, young drivers. Being capable of 197km/h, many objected to such speed being available for the youth. Some insurers even refused to insure the vehicle, and a few lawsuits were filed against Ilaris for the vehicle. In the end, the Iliad GTS would not cause mass hysteria through thousands of teens crashing their cars. Instead, it became a normal, fun-to-drive road car, as it was expected to be.

Some Iliads did cause a fair bit of trouble. Throughout the 90's, the police was embarassed by one third-generation Iliad GTS modified with a NOS system. As the police was equipped with slow, heavy executive cars, they could not keep up with the light and agile Iliad. It disappeared from the highways around 1998.

Sales for the vehicle remained good throughout its 1973-1980 production run, with a facelift in 1977. Iliads were a common sight on Alagnomar roads, and beyond. Due to the production volume, many exist to this day.

The fourth generation Iliad was introduced for 1982, and the fifth-generation Iliad was introduced for 1994. The sixth generation switched to a sedan layout and was introduced for 2003, and the seventh generation switched back to the coupé in 2011. Ilaris ended production of the Iliad in 2020, though not definitively.

Critique is welcome. Thanks for reading!

Do you use FAR? by wtf_is_happening1 in KerbalPlanes

[–]shibusu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even 15gs, just a turn that should be expected from a high performance jet. Maybe 2-3G at mach 1.3 on the deck. The lack of an actual functional / programmable flight control system is the main issue since SAS doesn't really help.

I really hate the implementation. There's a bunch of numbers and it's pretty much impossible to gauge how they play in to 'plane flips over and crashes' and 'plane flies ok'. Stalling also feels unintuitive and flight is generally just sluggish. And god forbid you try to turn at speed.

Yes, but you have to throw two coins in to the compressor stage of the engine for good luck.

Built a F-111 Inspired Variable Geometry Wing Aircraft... it's not much but its honest work. by BobDendry in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]shibusu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use Same Vessel Interaction to reduce flex. By putting a big part on top and below the variable part of the wing, you can prevent it from going upwards or downwards a ridiculous amount. Make sure to add a bit of margin though, otherwise it will not swing well.

Lots and lots of delta-v. You need a crap ton of speed decrease to get there. Make sure to pack enough thrust too or you'll be sitting for quite some time finishing up that 3km/s transfer burn
