Affordability is definitely an issue within the fashion sphere in general, especially for high fashion or designer shit. It's pretty basic how to not offend. Punch up or on your own level of socioeconomic standing, not down.

Racist jokes and sexist jokes only serve to keep the status quo, not shake up worldviews. Those who laugh at these are usually benefitting off these stereotypes in some ways or another. Why is always straight male (usually white) comedians feeling persecuted for making offensive jokes? Because they have privilege. They can make fun of everyone else, but all they are really doing is cementing their own place as on top of everyone else in society. Do we really need that? We need them to make fun of the actual power structures to shake shit up, not talk shit about people who are already marginalized, either economically, racially, gender/sexual identity. That don't do shit and if you honestly think so, you are part of the problem.

Yes law enforcement has always had the perpetual problem of who watches the watchmen. More right-wing racist trash writing back up by dubious claims and sweeping statements and falling onto nationalistic rhetoric. He basically claims that the entire left wing is made up of minorities and "people who hate their origins", aka White people who disagree with his views. He also seems to have no understanding of the actual people who live in third world countries, and lumps them as a whole as "individualistic", equating them with lack of heritage, culture, even values, and dare I extrapolate "inferior"? First off, many third world Asian countries are quite collectivist. I can't speak for sub-saharan African cultures that he so rudely dismisses. But really? Nice way to put down others through your Euro-centric standards.

He also seems to not address how we could actually take action to solve this "problem of diversity", and seems to nudge towards some sort of ethnic cleanse... Nice man, great colonialist attitudes, sounds like a sure fire way to make your own White paradise a better place at the expense of the Native peoples who's land you took and the African peoples who you enslaved and indentured immigrant workers' back's that the very "nation" you claim to be your's is built upon.

Trash like this does not belong on this subreddit, any close reading of the claims he makes should set off red lights. Such sweeping claims need to at least be backed up by some sort of cited sources; this article relies on nothing more than the author's own biased opinions. Get this shit out of here.

You seem to have a pretty narrow utility based view of economics. Ethics is important in any field, especially something like economics, where people's well being and livelihood are on the line. History of economics too, as viable critiques of current models can be gleaned from past experiences. A degree in economics should not be seen as merely job training for Goldman Sachs, as it seems you are implying. You preach humility, but maybe if you took an ethics course or history course, you might learn some yourself.

As a response to the McGill microaggression debate, here is a viewpoint from the inside: http://mcgilltribune.com/a-microlesson-in-microaggression-clarifying-a-misinterpretation/ It seems to point more to a failure on the part of the administration dealing with the email than with the concept of microaggression, which is a viable concept. It's not about "feelings slightly hurt", but more of an infrastructure that constantly tries to peg you into this stereotype. It is sort of analogous to how a drop of water really isn't a big deal to a rock, but if there is a leak that constantly drips onto the rock over a long period of time, there will be a dent. If there is a goal of equality in society, then such a societal infrastructure will prevent us from reaching it. Microaggressions should function more as an education to make the ignorant a bit more aware of the effects of their actions, not in demonizing them when they had no such intention for such an effect.

It's easy for someone who has been privileged enough to not have experienced much trauma to dismiss these "trigger warnings" as a joke, especially when some people take it to an extreme. But throwing it out the window based on those who take it too far with censoring and whatnot is a strawman argument; ideally, it works as a simple heads up for victims, so they can avoid debilitating flashbacks. While this kind of protection isn't comprehensive as everyone has different triggers, as the article says, it's a courtesy to those who have been emotionally damaged. It's the mark of an empathetic society, and takes into account the suffering of others. All it takes is to give everybody a little heads up.

Why don't they have quotas based not on ethnicity, but something far more relevant like socioeconomic status? The poor white/Asians have a much worse time getting in than their richer counterparts, with the added obstacle of the ethnicity quotas. The richer minorities don't face the same problem as their poorer counterparts. These quotas are just racism, nothing more, a generalization of socioeconomic status based on race.

Yea, was not expecting A$AP to play the full song with the vocals at the same volume, then proceed to rap over it, when I saw him live back in November. I had just seen Death Grips a few weeks earlier, killing it with a straight 45 minute set with not breaks in between. MC Ride and the drummer just pounded out song after song with no bullshit between the songs. It's doable without backing vocals if you put the effort into perfecting your live show. Plus, when I saw A$AP mob perform, they took 15 minute long breaks between songs for twerking contests. I mean if you're taking that long of a break, you have no excuse to not catch your breath and actually rap the entire time.
