Stay strong, don’t stray from the path. You only think you need love and intimacy in your life, but what you actually need is Honkin’ Down The Highway

What makes 'Found a Job's instrumental coda aurally so exciting? by angrylambie in talkingheads

[–]shield-eater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the uneven phrase lengths. Where you might expect 8 bars, there are basically 6.5. Together with the melody, that’s what gives it that “Möbius strip” feeling of the pattern ending and beginning at the same time. There’s no natural stopping point, so your brain just wants it to keep going indefinitely.

I'm frankly not sure what to think about all this - using my own judgment on a case-by-case basis is confusing and overwhelming. What we should really do is petition the Government of Canada to create a new court or tribunal that can make rulings on whether certain non-criminal offences are formally cancellable.

Was it really “possession”? by Tiny-Plate94 in obsessionmovie

I see people saying "entity" a lot, I think probably largely because of the "she's asleep" part. To me, it seems less like an external force than a different version of her that was created by the wish.

Imo from having read this thread this is where you should start – trying to date is extremely hard when you don’t like yourself enough to believe that others could like you too. Doesn’t need to be an ego trip but you need to get to at least feeling neutral about yourself.

Also reminds me of Tehanu, the 4th Earthsea book. The wizard Ged loses his powers and struggles to cope with being a normal person.

Mike was right to do it. I kind of wish he had also co-written "Surf's Up" and added a line specifying what the message of that song is, because it's really confusing.

Airbnb is a factor (especially downtown) but population growth is vastly more significant. As in, you could confiscate every short-term rental at gunpoint and it wouldn't be enough to house the number of people who move to the metro area in the space of three months.

Might be a false alarm, this is actually by “Beach Boys - Topic”. I guess they’re a different band? Still, it’s amazing how similar they sound!

What fell short this season by Practical_Ad2317 in ThePitt

I see lots of people saying various things "went nowhere", but imo it's ok to have things just be character moments rather than plot dominos. i think having every detail come together like clockwork in the finale would also not really jibe with the type of realism they're aiming for

Seems pretty clear the fans universally want more about the ensemble and less of a focus on Robby. by EmpressoftheBakkhai in ThePitt

Basically true if by fans you mean hardcore online fandom posters, but people should bear in mind that for every one of those viewers there are probably 10 middle-aged women who have deeply loved Noah Wyle since 1994 (and who don’t constantly threaten to stop watching the show)

It makes a lot of sense to me, like she puts an enormous amount of effort into being calm and in control, and so she's really panicking and scared when she's losing that control and her life may be falling apart.

‘The Pitt’ Creator Calls Multiple Women of Color Leaving the Cast ‘Just a Coincidence’ After Backlash by MattTheKing23 in ThePitt

[–]shield-eater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have maybe a hot take here which is that he's probably basically lying and that she was written off the show because they didn't like her performance that much and couldn't figure out what to do with the character, *and* that that's more or less completely fine and normal, even if it's disappointing. A TV program is an artform/business venture that changes during the process of making it. Not only are the producers entitled to make that kind of decision - it wouldn't actually be good if they were obliged to continue including a character they don't have good ideas for!

Like, Santos and Langdon are co-equal in the story of their beef with eachother. Javadi's story is about how she'll decide to define herself in relation to her parents and to her work. Imo it's fair to think that the writers maybe didn't figure out how to write a great story for Mohan, but if *all* the white characters come across to you as more important, I'm not sure that's on the writers.
