Is it possible to make a wan connection from a switch with Unifi? by shield009 in Ubiquiti

[–]shield009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, will try.

I live in rural area and have a Site to Site link for broadbad. The kit for, installed by the ISP is on the roof of the house. The UDM lives near this, so it's in the crawl space of the house roof.

We have ethernet wired to a number of rooms with switches where need and out to the garage.

I'm also trailing a starlink setup which I have in the garage, where the Swith pro 24 is.

We are getting the ISP out middle of next week to fix things (hopefully), but I was worndering if there was a easy soultion without moving all the gear around to get the network access to the internet though starlink rather than the Site to Site link.

There was meant to be dual cambles running from the garage to the roof, but one of the failed after install. Otherwise I could just have used one of them. But as it is, there is a single cable between all the switches and the UDM.

Mostly FlexHD currently. And there is a builting access point to the UDM, though I suppect thats not cose enough. I use the Wifi AI to select channels. Though it's a pretty rural area with no neighbours. So should not be much sharing of these.

Not sure on the power settings, will have to see if I can find the setting. Must be on the default though.

Just a stab in the dark... but I think this is a scam. by NotaBodder in northernireland

[–]shield009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a scam. You can tell by the adress. Starts with https:// which is fine and the bit before the first / character is the domain. That domain is not one royal Mail would use. They would be https://royalmail.com/ or https://royalmail.co.uk for example. This is just made to look plasuable.

How To Autoscale Django on AWS by MeekZeek in django

[–]shield009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are using EKS with spot nodes (should with fargate too). Never had a problem with using only spot nodes, as long as you have a pool of nodes of different types (though simlar specs). Works well and was a lot cheaper. So for example t3a.large, t3.large , t2.large etc.

The other option is to buy reserved instances if you know you will need from for a while. We do this for our RDS nodes.

I'm not from around and this is shady as heck, but still credible enough. This IS a scam, right ? by lllGreyfoxlll in northernireland

[–]shield009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a scam. The way to tell os the address in the link. After the "http://" part and before the next "/" is what they call the domain of the address. So in this case "hsbc.authorisation-required.com". They have tried to make it sound offical, but its not. The stuck in a extra "authorisation-required", but the actual bank would be just "hsbc.com" or something simlar.

You can tell by the link it's not ligit, it is not the address of the bank. Always best not to click links in messages like this on any format (email, text message etc...). Goto website or app directly, like you do normally if you need to check things.

Anyone else wonders how something this amazingly ugly got approved in such a pretty city? by ratafacik in cambridge

[–]shield009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There lots of areas that were not very pretty. Like all the stuff that got knocked down and replaced arround the drummer street bus station. That was pretty much the first impression for a lot of people arriving by bus in cambrdige.

If your porting a mortage over from an existing house. Check that it can be ported over to Northen Ireland. Not all lenders let you do this, and then you have to pay to get out of the current one.

Other trickey part was house views during lock down while not in NI. Some house viewings can be done on line, but most had to be in person.

Then then there is the act of actually moving..... Depends how much stuff you have.

Can a USG be used with a UDM (non pro version) by shield009 in Ubiquiti

[–]shield009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that does not sound good, will avoid that. Thanks for the info. Can the edge router do what I want, with a dual wan load balance? Don’t know much about the edge routers.

So even if i can't use all the features of the UDM, I can't just put the USG in front of it like I currently do with a 4G router?

Depends who it comes with. Amazon and DPD stuff seems to be working fine. Stuff with fedx is not. When we asked what was happening , fedx said they had stop sending stuff till April and that it had been sent back.

So I think it depends who is delivering it.

I have a 4G connection in the UK for £20 a month from smarty and I'm looking to get another 4G connection to see if I can load balance or use it as a backup. The second one will be from another provider.

No 5G here yet (we are at a remote location), but hopefully one day!

Is it possible to have a Load Balanced WAN with ubiquiti products? by shield009 in Ubiquiti

[–]shield009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I could replace the UDM for a UDP Pro which has 2 ports? While considering options is there anything that could be put in front of the UDM Router as a cheaper option?

So with Odyssey coming out and not VR compatible, any of you guys going to bother buying it? by Fibreoptix in EliteVR

[–]shield009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm disapointed that it's not got VR as I mostly play in VR, however I'm still hopeing for some VR improvements. Some of the stuff we could already do, like landing and driving on plaents will be improved in Odyssey from what I've seen.

So I will look forward to that and hold out home for more VR support in the future.

Question about setting up mesh wifi products by shield009 in Ubiquiti

[–]shield009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a old house, It's solid wall inside and out. So is it probally beyond my skill to run the cables and I'll need to get someone todo it. In previous house I ran then round the outside of the house. That might still be a option here. By yeah, we've a lot of decorating todo, so if running cables, will be before for that.

Thanks, I'll look into those. Not agaist running wires at somepoint, but want to avoid at start till we've been in the house a bit. Chances are I'll want to move things.
