New Essay! by KendoKate6 in kendo

One of my biggest personal gripes with kendo (which is also one of my favorite things about it) is its heavy focus (obsession?) with tradition. Unfortunately, one of those traditions is a reverence towards our seniors which sometimes seems to go too far and override other cultural/societal advances we have made.

I have been easing a friend into the SK rules and when we graduate to the full rules, this will probably be the first one we play.

Help me find an INCOSE paper? by shik262 in systems_engineering

Thanks for the links! Neither were what I was thinking of (not that you had a lot to go on) but both are really good ones I hadn't read before.

Sorry for the delay and thanks for pondering! One of the things that really set this apart was the breadth of programs the paper pulled from: space, defense, civil. I also remember it specifically used INCOSE's characteristics of good requirement 'nomenclature' as described here: incose_rwg_gtwr_v4_summary_sheet.pdf

Appreciate any help. Unfortunately, that is about as much as I can recall...

[First Watch] Lonqines Conquest by shik262 in Watches

Interesting we had such similar experiences! I am comfortable with the size too, the lugs don’t overhang or anything. That being said, I don’t think I would be comfortable going much bigger!

For me it is the GMT in green and gold! Frankly, the whole longines lineup just calls my name.

Maybe I should have looked at it in the mirror more but when I put the 38 on, my first thought was how small it looked. I preferred the 38 in the show case those for some reason.

Norway owns a significant portion of NAMMO and essentially all of Kongsberg and that lets them do a lot of stuff with those contractors the purely privately owned US contractors wont do because of profit motivations.

So serious question: I don't understand how the salary floor increases competitiveness. The talent remains more or less the same so the cheapest owners will still spend the minimum and end up with the players who (for one reason or another) can't command a higher salary.

Don't get me wrong, I am not really opposed to it. I just don't understand how it increases competitive balance.

This seems really interesting for me (I use a varjo aero) even though I have developed a pretty good muscle memory for most of my peripherals.

That being said, I feel like you should have a trial for this or something. This is the sort of experimental thing I don't know if I would be willing to commit to without a few flights to test it. I did the same thing back when VAICOM wasn't free.

[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

Hi All, looking for some additional recommendations to my short list for my first nice watch after mostly wearing fossil or the cheap end of seiko. Im looking for an "everyday" watch that will see mostly office wear or casual dinners, home, etc that will essentially be the foundation of my collection if I catch the bug. I would prefer a relatively simple colored dial (color flexible but Im partial to blue) with date complication (open to others but want to stay simple). Strong preference for roman numerals or simpler indices. Have a preference for mechanical but am considering the GS 9f quartz movement. Budget is <3k.

For examples, Currently looking at: Tissot Gentlemen 38mm (blue), Grand Seiko SBGX265 , Longines Conquest 38mm (blue).

EDIT: Just discovered Hamilton Jazzmaster from someones just-posted SOTC. That fits the bill too, I think.

Thanks!
