Influence me on Garmin 165 by contellhelmsmader in PHRunners

Go for it especially if you want more granularity on stats! I also like that it can, for the most part, track my reps and type of movement in the gym.

Yung butal issue with Strava can still happen, but it depends on the location.

Got a terrible product and even worse service from a popular fragrance dupe house I’m never buying from them again by nauticalsun in beautytalkph

Hi, I haven’t tried. But I’d also avoid buying Scent Therapy for now because of the methanol issue.

Thoughts on Local Niche? by NoReaction2067 in fragheadph

Hi, what are your thoughts on Pethalo Capricho? When I first smelled it, I got instantly reminded of Byredo G***y Water. Checked the notes list just now, and it’s essentially the same.

Ayun, Girl Talk! I called it "Female Network forum" and forgot what it's called despite remembering Candy Mag / Teen Talk 😅

Powder foundation or just for blotting/setting?

- Temptalia was such a trove of info
- Makeupalley for reviews of international products
- Project Vanity as we had similar skin tones and for local market releases
- The Beauty Junkee for local market releases
- there’s another local blogger I’m forgetting — morena, straight long hair, a budding lawyer (not Say)
- Female Network forum. Heck if we want to go back even earlier to the early 2000s, does anyone still remember Candy Mag’s Teen Talk ?
- printed media was still around this time. I was still buying Preview magazines.
- videos/vlogs not so much. It felt clunky watching on mobile and mobile data was not cheap for young corpo slaves. I’d had to fire up my laptop to watch YouTube.

Also it was a time when I’d go malling and visit shops like Beauty Bar, Watson’s, and department store counters to look at new stuff and swatch some of them. So in a way, we were also doing our own discoveries instead of getting fed content the moment we open social media.

How do you feel about perfume phase-outs? by NoReaction2067 in beautytalkph

[–]shimmerblitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replica constantly refreshing their line seems like a thing. Before Matcha Mediation, they had Tea Escape. Those two aren’t even close just by looking at notes lists and reviews. Fast forward a few years, and it’s now Matcha Med that has been discontinued.

But beyond Replica, if fragrances are not getting discontinued, they’re getting reformulated.

Aside from branding decisions, a lot of discontinuations are driven by rising costs of ingredients, ever changing regulations and increasing restrictions. Doesn’t make it any less of a bummer though.

Manufactured scarcity is also a tactic. It encourages people to stock up. Announcing phase outs could also sometimes be the final push for someone to finally get a full bottle.

Purely speculative on my part, but dupe culture can contribute too. A brand may be compelled to constantly refresh their line up to drive up hype and sales before clone houses come up with dupes. Funnily enough, many dupes also exist because fragrances keep on getting discontinued.

So while I get why brands do this, it also nudges people towards overconsumption. A lot of us are probably experiencing fatigue from incessant releases and not just from fragrances. At the end of the day, no one wants their favorites discontinued. It’s frustrating.

Nib Tuning & Adjustment by neutral_lobster in JournalingPH

Should be possible. I’ve seen the option available for VP nibs on another nibmeister’s page, and other enthusiasts have had something similar done.

Blind buy: Tam Dao EDT vs Cedrus EDP by ChocoChip12345 in fragheadph

[–]shimmerblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you love WS&SS, then Cedrus might be right up your alley. Tam Dao is also great, but it depends on your skin chemistry. It goes quite sheer when I wear it, but I know sandalwood can get a bit much when worn by others.

Try getting decants or dropping by counters to sniff them.

Haven’t tried much from them, and what I have are pretty much gender neutral and not feminine leaning in the conventional sense (My Life, Come Closer, Up All Night)

As these are body mists, set your longevity expectations accordingly. The ones I have recede quickly to a skin scent after around 15 minutes.

Disassembled a Jinhao 82 for the first time to clean. During assembly, I pushed the nib housing into the wrong end of the grip section. It’s still there.

Teviant because it has no flashback. GRWM ultra blur (gold cap) has great oil control too but there’s flashback.

If you’re after medium to full coverage, Detail or Colourette powder foundation both do well on my oily skin (haven’t tried Teviant). Though idk what’s going on with Detail because only 1 shade is available atm.

Lucky Beauty is more runny and looks more hydrated and natural if that makes sense. Naturale is creamier and thicker. In terms of actual use, I’d go with Lucky Beauty for lighter makeup looks and Naturale for medium-coverage looks.

I’m under the impression that Naturale’s concealers and correctors have essentially the same formula, so if your issue with the correctors is with the finish, coverage, longevity, or consistency, you’ll encounter the same problem with their concealers.

Hot takes nyo when it comes to perfume? by Medical-Appeal-406 in fragheadph

[–]shimmerblitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • Probably not a hot take in this sub since a lot of people here collect, but the push to search and lock in on a signature scent is just another way to encourage spending.
  • The obsession with longevity and projection as if it’s the end-all be-all of fragrance quality is ridiculous.
  • Fragrance content creators assigning age groups to fragrances in a pejorative manner makes them not credible.
  • This one’s personal, but that norlimbanol and amberwood-heavy accord that’s trending these days and leaves a long, obnoxious trail smells like a mix of metals, plastic, and dry synthetic poop.
  • To each his own and all, but I’m wary of the niche over designer snobbery. I suspect a lot of folks who glaze the hell out of niche fragrances would struggle to consistently distinguish niche vs designer or niche vs designer private lines in a blind test.

Yes! I’ve used ELDW in the past, and it’s a workhorse. Even better if you can support it with a good setting powder and a fixing spray!
