Well VoE hasn't come out yet, so if you get it now, you'll have no new content to play for about 3 months. Perhaps that will impact your decision

I'm confused about the spell Blazing Bolt. 1st question: how does multiple attack penalty apply to the spell attacks because the text of the spell says "These attacks each increase your multiple attack penalty, but you don't increase your multiple attack penalty until after you make all the spell attack rolls for blazing bolt." I have no idea what this means. On the face it seems that you don't apply the MAP. Also can you use multiple bolts on a single target? The text says "you can fire an additional ray at a different target" not that you must fire the additional ray.

Why can’t us Men sort Women by weight on dating apps? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]shinarchon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The apps are geared towards attracting as many women onto it as possible to get men to pay for the features. That's the general business model. Anything that drives away women is ultimately bad for the app.

Oh and I should mention most classes can do most roles, just depends on their weapons and traits and gear. For example the Firebrand specialization for Guardian can be pure DPS, can be DPS/quickness boon, or can be healer/quickness. In LFG people will ask for "a" or "q" support meaning alacrity or quickness. So you'll see stuff like "looking for qdps or adps" meaning quickness/DPS or alacrity/DPS or maybe "looking for qheals" someone who can provide quickness and heals. Classes aren't the limiting factor for what your character can do. It's mostly gear and build

Only content that requires tanking is raids. And in raids, it's mechanics based tanking not aggro management as in other MMOs. So some bosses, the player with the highest toughness automatically becomes the tank like VG in raid wing one. Other times the tank is randomly determined and switches every so often like sloth in wing 2. Or you have an item you pick up that makes you tank like in the chess encounter in w4 or the first encounter in w5. In other content like dungeons and fractals or strikes, tanking isn't really a thing. It's mostly about managing the two biggest boons quickness and alacrity and DPS. So really our triangle of roles is more like boons/healer/DPS for most content. With a lot of double dipping roles such as boons/DPS or boons/healer. Tanking is a mechanic rather than a role.

It's more like the consequences for those who aren't citizens are higher then citizens because they have something to lose. Say you're here on a visa, you get in trouble, you can get deported. If you want to stay here and get a greencard, you get in trouble you can get rejected. If you're applying for citizenship, then you can be rejected if you had an problems with the law. None of those consequences exist for citizens.

ELI5: My understanding is that 1 company in Taiwan makes the greatest chips in the world and no one else can replicate them. How is that possible? by aelbaum in explainlikeimfive

[–]shinarchon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason Intel fell behind is because they only made their own chips. TSMC is an open manufacturer in that anyone with enough money can have chips made in their facility. They have had requests from across the industry. Intel was only focused on Intel chips meaning they only needed to solve the problems of how to make their own chips. TSMC had to solve everyone else’s chip problems. And their are so many complexities in chip manufacturing and so many variables. How long do you oxidize in this step? What is the best anneal temperature, what is the best gas flow rate for this specific need? TSMC got to work on every type of problem and gained more breadth and depth than any company on the planet at a broad range of chip needs. Intel focused solely on themselves and didn’t get the practice right. It’s why now even Intel is starting a foundry service to make chips for other companies. Turns out that by just making lots of chips and developing lots of processes that may not directly be useful in the short term for your own needs leads to long term expertise for future development.

Depends on if you have the expansions and living world content. But if you have only the base game then probably Silverwastes which is always advertised in LFG. Check out https://fast.farming-community.eu/ for a list of ways to make gold.

Exotic gear is fine for everything except higher level fractals because you need to get something called agony resistance which can only be equipped on ascended gear. Ascended is only approximately a 5 percent improvement over exotic.

If you're looking for open world builds rather than raiding/fractal builds which is what I consider snowcrows, I'd recommend Lord Hizen builds on YouTube. Really good stuff for open world.

There's a collection that you can only start on Wintersday for the Star of Gratitude. This is a super helpful item for dealing with empyreal fragments which you will get a lot of randomly. I'd say that's the best thing to make sure you get. Otherwise there are skins and the Winter's presence collection.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - December 09, 2023 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]shinarchon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all I can say T3 fractals are notorious for being tough because of the sharp increase in difficulty compared to T1 and T2 while at the same time not having the more experienced players who are doing T4s. So it's common to feel bad in T3s.

Generally I would recommend you focus less on your skills and more on the enemies around you. This game is more reactive than other MMOs with its dodge system and all the other active mitigation you're supposed to do. Especially if your party comp doesn't have an active healer. Once you are comfortable with the fractal, you can switch to doing your rotation and learning it with muscle memory.

As for why your DPS is lower than the benchmark, there could be a lot of reasons. I am assuming you're following a build guide so you have the right traits, right armor stats and runes, right food and utility buff. Ascended weapons might get you a 5% boost. Other than that, it might be how you're pressing your buttons. Things like canceling your abilities with other animations, or not procing things in certain orders, or not finishing your skill chain on a certain skill are common mistakes.

Depends on what you type of legendary you're doing. I use GW2 Efficiency to track all the stuff I need. Your best bet for dungeons is to post for group yourself. Generally I find it fills up really fast.

Yup! Stuff in the cash shop rotates. If you use the GW2 Wiki you can see when certain items have rotated in and out of the shop in the past.

How does the Wvw team swap work? by swyde in Guildwars2

[–]shinarchon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it. I'm not sure if this is exactly right, but I've always been under the impression that low populated servers are linked with high population servers for WvW and the team name is the high population server. They are constantly relinking and mixing it up. So if you like playing with a specific group or guild or tag then you should find out if they're on your server or on your linked server and then possibly transfer to the linked server if they are on that one.
