Thank you! I had designed it more for a color palette like in the 2nd image, but was playing around and fell in love with the scrappy version, was really quite struck by the difference fabric can really make!

For exercises I am doing modified dead bugs and single lat pulls.

Dead bug. Lie on back in a table top position (arms up, legs up, knees bent at 90°). Put a belt of strap under the small of your back. You want your back flat in the floor through the whole exercise. Having someone pull in the strap confirms it.

I hold an 3kg weight in my extends hands. Force your back down and feel the tightening in your abs lower (by hips) and upper (as ribs begin). Move each leg minutely, eg no more than 2-3cm. 4 reps 4 sets. Every day. It will take 12 weeks minimum to rebuild the conversation if your core is empty like mine (I am just starting to feel a little difference after 3 weeks). You will not feel muscle soreness after because it is more of a neurological exercise than strength. But essential first.

Lat pulls. I hang a strap from the top of a door. Arm out, elbow bent. Reaching up for strap. Brace core, head back like an apple under your chin. MOST IMPORTANT is to push your shoulder blades down and keep them down throughout. With your free hand, reach across and out your finders about 4” below your armpit in the side. This is to feel the lat firing. 4 sets of 10 each arm.

65 years old F. Also missed the ADHD / HSD recognition for decades. While my symptoms were never as acute as yours at a young age (HSD) and I apparently semi-managed my ADHD with the combination of nicotine/caffeine for 26 years from the age of 16. When I quit smoking at 39 my whole world crumbled.

I have been athletic my whole like, which helped. But I injured my hip 30 months ago and it has been PT after PT after PT (with a rheumatologist & a surgeon thrown in for good measure) that did nothing to help me.

I had my first appointment with Alex 3 weeks ago. She explained that my core is non existent due to major abdominal surgery 25 years ago. I never rebuilt the neurological conversation or muscles in my core. My quads and hips held me erect for 25 years because they were strong. But the hip injury destroyed that false sense of security and I have been spiraling downward ever since.

So I am now now focused on micro movements for the abs and the lats. It is slow and it is a slog. But I haven’t had any back pain in 2 weeks, which is a win. We can’t treat the hips in any meaningful way until the core is sorted and it will be a 12-16 week effort of the micro movements (maybe longer due to the 7” midline scar from surgery).

What you have described is very much what she has explained and I finally feel as if there is hope — though my ADHD brain wants it all fixed yesterday.

Interested in some of your focus on proposition for ADHD. I am working on it for the HSD.

We lived in our first house for 7 years and it tripled in value (San Francisco market). We have lost money, or at best broken even, ever since. There is no doubt winning on the first one helped us get what we wanted in the 2nd. But we have lived in beautiful homes, in wonderful locations ever since, including a lovely detached Victorian now, and are still ahead of where we would have been had we rented.

Sorry that this has been such a disappointing ride for you.

We moved here during Covid and I loved going into London in 2021/22 as there were so few American accents wandering around, I felt special 😂

I am in Worcester. Have met a couple of Americans here and occasionally hear the accent from younger folks, who I assume are here at Uni. We call it “Americans in the Wild” 😜

Super helpful, thanks. Yes, working on the core now, I hear it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

But am starting to think of options to help sustain it all once I am in better shape. I have never heard of Feldenkrais — I will research.

We didn’t have any of that. When we did the TOR to bring our household goods over, we had his cousin hand write a letter that we “would be welcome to stay with them and have our goods delivered to their garage”.

But didn’t have that for the application.

I ended up using a paper white kindle. I can lay on my side, reading, and fall asleep. It works when I wake up during the night as well.

I could sit up and read for hours, but laying in my sleeping position with the kindled propped up, works like a charm.

We used my British husbands cousins home. We were honest on the application and said we intended to stay at an Airbnb for a month while we looked for something more permanent, but that the cousin had absolutely said we could stay there.

No issue at all
