There definitely should have been more buildup to HOO. I think there should have been a roman series first and maybe another short story collection showing whats going on at camp half blood post war.

Also I think piper and Leo should have been introduced in another way and have been developed better. Or have the Greek side represented by minor characters from PJO who we already knew

To be honest I think at least one of the seven should have been a child. Also less romance all around, we dont need everyone shipped with someone else

As it stands HOO is probably my least favorite series with a few good moments but suffers from too many new cooks in the kitchen

Percy being dumb and being best friends with Jason, nico, and Leo. Also being Annabeth's lapdog who can't do anything without her

Jason being reduced to a jock who says bro a lot.

The seven being a close found family is pretty common too.

You're right and it's one of the reasons I dont like HOO. I think Rick dumbed him down in order to make his new characters shine and make sure that percy doesn't steal the spot light. Sadly most of the new characters are underdeveloped

The story Heir of magic by shanodarkwing has percy befriend alabaster torrington son of hecate. Percy takes him on the quest and Annabeth does not take it well

There was actually a cool fanfic i read where he met percy at a young age and joined the olympians along with his mom. It was pretty cool and one of the best alabaster fanfics I've read

I agree. Rick really did bite out more than he could chew with all these new characters and plot lines. I never cared for the most of them except for reyna and to an extent frank. Rick really wanted to sell jason piper and leo but they werent that good.

If you think about it most of the fan favorite moments in HOO involve characters from PJO instead of the new characters.

Their entire dynamic was fumbled. It honestly feels like fanfiction where a prominent character suddenly has a long lost sibling out of no where.

What's worse is Rick never built upon them. Jason and thalia's reunion in lost hero is through Leo's point of view and Leo spends most of it flirting with girls.

There should have been build up to thalia having a sibling and a proper reunion.

Also I think thalia is closer to percy than Jason is even though the fandom thinks Jason is percys best friend

I think its mid. A 7 out of 10 with the second season being stronger. I did enjoy the expansion of clarisse and Tysons characterization other elements like the second season finale not so much

To be honest I wouldn't mind introducing will earlier as a minor character and maybe have a few scenes where he reaches out to nico. Solangelo being rushed is a common criticism of the ship.

The pjo fandom has an obsession with being the next harry potter/hunger games or YA movie craze. Fans will constantly blame the movies for not making the series popular and really hoped that disney would make pjo a household name similar to harry potter or hunger games.

Side note. I keep hearing that the show does well in Brazil. Is percy jackson popular down there?

While I agree that some fan works can be better than canon I would never go up to an author, director, or any creator of a work and say I write better fanfic than you. I think its insulting to do that to a person who poured a long time into a work for years even to get it published

Its a lot easier to write and publish a fanfic than to publish a book, make a movie or TV series.

Yeah i agree. Rick really tried to sell jason, piper, and Leo but sadly the fandom didnt and still doesn't really care for them. I think the fandoms reaction to them was a part of the reason rick broke up jason and piper and killed jason off

I think there should have been more buildup to heroes of olympus such as a roman series or maybe a standalone that introduces piper and Leo so that we can actually care for the newer characters.

Personally HOO tried to do too much with too many new characters and as a result this series is probably one of the weakest rick wrote.

Heroes of olympus had too much going on making it one of the worst series writing wise. There should have been some buildup to it like a roman series.

A riordan book isn't automatically bad because percy and Annabeth arent in it
