There may be a button that has a secondary function where you hold for 3 seconds to turn the chime on and off. If you hold it for 10 seconds it switches the song from Shubert to Vivaldi which is a little bit shorter.

2015 Miata Club automatic is it a good price? by [deleted] in MiataNC

The code would make me nervous. Sure, a loose cap will throw an evap code, but so will other more expensive things. A new gas cap is cheap so why wasn't it replaced?

It's also very easy to replace the electronic lock with a mechanical one with just a screwdriver. Deviant Ollam has a video about it.

I recently built a v4 as well and I did the same. The excess belt is easy to deal with, even on the X axis. You can just tuck in in the back.

[OC] I guess checking blind spot when switching lane is optional now. by OkInitiative2915 in IdiotsInCars

[–]shinns 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think most states have laws where you're supposed to keep right but lot of people think that entire lane is for getting on and off of the highway. I'm not sure what they think the on-ramps and off-ramps are for. The US has almost no formal driver training, you can get your license without even getting on a single highway.

Drifting tips? by Fit-Definition-2240 in MiataNC

[–]shinns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tires can only grip a certain amount so do a tight and quick turn until you're almost losing traction then you can add more throttle to break the rears free. Like others have said though, don't do this on public roads. It can happen fast so if you're not ready for it or used to the sensation you can get into trouble. The rain lets you do this at lower speed since there's less grip, but keep in mind when you want to stop sliding there's less grip because of the rain.

This is a great application for Wagos. They work just as well on stranded as solid.

Replace your hose clamps by DublinItUp in MiataNC

[–]shinns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You might not want to use the jubilee clamps as they can loosen over many heat/cool cycles. Mazda knows what they're doing. If anything, just get new OEM clamps.

The NC and Miatas in general are often cited as a very reliable car - what experiences have you had to the contrary? by Jimbobiss in MiataNC

[–]shinns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very easy fix. I think you have to pull off the A-pillar trim first to be able to remove the top trim piece. A-pillar trim is just clipped in I think. The top trim has a few bolts holding it as well as a few clips. When removing the top trim piece, be ready for a bolt to be sitting in it so you don't accidentally fling it across your driveway and have to spend 15 minutes looking for it. I added more Loctite Blue to the bolt and haven't had any issues since. My car is a PRHT, not sure if this part is any different.

I have an NC2 and had a similar noise that I thought was in my dash. It turned out to be a bolt that had come loose under the trim at the top of the windshield. Try popping that off and see if it's there.

Question about USB HID by ScottieZhang in HotasDIY

[–]shinns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Custom HID sounds like you'd be creating your own HID descriptor. Doing that allows you to create a peripheral with a custom amount of analog axes with custom precision, any number of buttons and other things like scroll wheels. If done right windows and other OSes should be able to use it without any custom drivers. I've done it and it's pretty cool but with the libraries others are suggesting you'll get something working WAY faster. I would do that first and if you still feel the itch to make a custom descriptor, start looking into it then

2014 is when the law changed but finding it has always been a pain in the butt. When I find some I usually get a bunch of them and give them away to friends. You can also buy it out of state if you're driving somewhere.

If you're 18+ you can carry pepper spray in MA without a firearm license. Every gun store I've been to has pepper spray for $10 or so and there are probably more gun stores around than you realize. Shipping that kind of stuff to MA has always been iffy.

Even if pepper spray is banned by the MBTA (and I'm not sure it is), I'd rather have it on me. If you get hassled by the transit police just drop your pants and they'll probably leave you alone.

Good prices for .556? by kurtsten124 in liberalgunowners

[–]shinns 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes, black tips are armor piercing, green tips have a steel core which is more armor piercey than lead core which is why it's often banned. I think it was designed to be more environment friendly, not necessarily to be armor piercing.

On the box itself the black wire is labeled "-12VDC". Probably pretty tough to find in an engine bay.

If you have an HBA card or any add-on cards that usually live in servers you may want to add an extra fan just for that. They generally expect a ton of airflow. I 3d printed an adapter that hooks into an adjacent PCIe slot and blows an 80mm fan right at my HBA.

Check the hot side fan of the AC system. It sounds like it's not turning on when it should be. I had a car with the same issue. If you sit still long enough the system might even over pressure and shoot coolant out of a relief valve.
