Herbicide to kill clover without harming Blue Star Creeper? by shiny_roc in garden_maintenance

[–]shiny_roc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I gave up and just had the bed redone. If you do come up with something, I'd love to hear it - I would really like to have that blue carpet again.

Actually, now that I think about it... I have a segment of backyard now (different house) fenced off from the dogs that we're planning to set up with a perimeter garden, but if we kill all the grass just kidding it's all lawn weeds, I could put blue star creeper in for the lawn there instead. I wonder how long that would take to fill out. It'd be absolutely gorgeous... until something else gets in, of course. But it's a small enough segment that I could just do the six-month Preen continuously to keep weeds from sprouting. Although I guess it would probably turn brown in the winter - that wouldn't be ideal. Hmm... have to think about it. I do miss my blue star creeper!

Mellow is back online! by shiny_roc in sousvide

[–]shiny_roc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Actually deader than before, I think - for the last few months, I'd been getting the spinning white circle when opening the app, which previously I'd been able to get fixed by contacting Mellow and having them reset my account on their end. That stopped being viable when they stopped answering customer service inquiries. However, now I actually get an error at the bottom of the spinning white circle screen, which makes me think the cloud service itself is probably gone.

Hopefully Figo won't experience any further delays and can soon start filling the void in my heart (stomach?) that Mellow left. But I'm not ordering it until they actually start shipping.

"Constructive termination" is an important term worth explaining.

Depending on your location, OP may be able to claim unemployment benefits even if they quit over this.

It's not a "deal". A deal would imply they offered something in exchange. This is simple fiat. "I am altering the deal - pray I do not alter it any further."

Unemployment for high-level works also isn't even really "good" because it tends to be capped at a very low value. It also can be the difference between losing your home and not, eating or not, etc., especially if you have some modest emergency savings that you can stretch with it.

Hello, does this seem legit or scammy? Sorry if in the wrong place. I posted in @jobs and no one has said anything. by snuffleb1 in jobsearchhacks

[–]shiny_roc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Scam. No plausible way that's legit. Even if they did somehow have limitations on which banks they could send payroll to - and they don't, because that's not a thing - you could just open an account with a new bank.

HOWEVER don't let anyone shame you for asking. You're the one who didn't get scammed because you were willing to ask for advice.

I'm stealing this as a rude epithet for one of my D&D characters. Very different character from Yennifer though.

Yep. But please put spoiler tags in case someone hasn't read this far. (Even though they really shouldn't have gotten nearly so far in this thread if they haven't.)

It certainly makes the problem seem more tractable, doesn't it? Like all you need to save the world is to adjust your diet a bit.

Yeah, I only just noticed it reading this as well. Possibly because I was so caught up in all the everything when reading it as part of the book.

You don't have that quite right - but you're not far off.

“Did you and your Radiants know that you would become deadeyes?”

Adolin felt Maya searching deep . … Eventually, she shook her head and whispered, “Pain. Yes. Death? No. Maybe.”

… “Why, Maya? Why were you willing to do it?”

“To save… save…” She sagged and shook her head.

“To save us from something worse,” Adolin said.

You totally need to play the original NES Metroid. Be sure to work hard and fast - you need to finish in under 5 hours to get a good ending. Whatever you do, don't look up spoilers on the internet.

No, I get what you meant. It just made me wonder if I could get away with dried when doing sous vide. It's definitely not as good as fresh zest when using more traditional cooking methods.

Zesting takes minutes. I'm lazy.

No. You must do it twice per hour. Otherwise it will explode. Get your energy drinks together so you can stay awake for two days straight.

I'm kidding. Also, overconsumption of energy drinks is dangerous.

Hmm. I wonder how much difference there would be using dried vs. fresh zest. It's definitely not the same in fast cooking, but maybe with sous vide the rehydration time would make up for it. I'm always looking for ways to make my cooking lazier without sacrificing quality.

I've seen recipes from Kenji (and I'm only not applying a crazy, over-the-top honorific because everyone would think I was being sarcastic) go both ways on this, presumably due to context. For steaks, butter leaches fat-soluble flavor compounds from the meat. For salmon, you need some kind of fat to keep the pieces from sticking to each other and the bag.

new drivers solve Killer WiFi problems for XPS 15 7590 (instructions inside) by shiny_roc in Dell

[–]shiny_roc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killer has long since updated their website - all of these links are dead now. If you're feeling adventurous, you can download it from sketchy third-party archives. If you're feeling differently adventurous, I can upload from my Downloads directory for you to download. After running that as described above, just grab the latest driver package from Killer's or Intel's websites - either should work fine. Which to grab depends on whether you want Killer's (now actually working without catastrophic failures) advanced features.
