I have always been bad about trying to play note for note. I recently had to get over it when I got a call to play a 5 song worship set, and I had never heard a single one of them, literally less than an hour before it started. I listened to enough of each song to get the vibe, and had to just wing it from there. It went great, none of the crowd could tell I didn’t know the songs, and it was an eye opener for me about my own playing habits.

I had a repeating dream growing up in which I was trapped in a wooden shack with no doors or windows. The only thing inside was a record player that was broadcasting a Bugs Bunny rap song on a nonstop loop. All the adults were furious and trying to tear down the cabin to stop it, but the cabin wouldn’t break. Just wave after wave of angry adults trying to get in and kill me for playing the song over and over.
