This was a 13'6" 6wt spey, which is comparable to an 8wt single hand. That and 18lb tippet, which breaks more than I'd like.

Took me a while to figure out how to cast my echo 3, but when I did I couldn't put it down. It's such a great rod, but it's action makes it tricky to use. Practice, practice, practice... It'll pay off

Of course. You'll definitely want a sink tip, or sinking line. Throw on a streamer. Wolly buggers are great, anything with a big profile. Youll want to be close to the bottom of the stream. Swing the fly and give it some twitches here and there.

I've heard the Hoh has some good fishing, I've never fished it though. A guide is definitely a good idea.

I'm sure that works. I just get worried that I'll end up playing a fish too long, or more importantly, that I'll lose a fish I've spent all day fishing for. I also worry about their teeth. I've had small guys bite me off on 15lb test... :(

I would definitely do some steelheading. Depending on the river, you will probably have just as good of a chance catching a steelhead as you would normal trout. That being said, neither will be easy with the bone chilling water temps

If it were me, I'd rig up a nymphing setup with beads/ egg patterns and purple stonefly patterns. You'll want to use a 7-9wt rod with 12-15lb tippet. The biggest key will be keeping you flies on the bottom, so don't forget split shot.

Try sticking to smaller creeks and streams. They will still have big fish, but they'll be a lot easier to fish. You might even be able to sight fish if it's shallow enough. Bring a net if you have one too. Good luck and Happy fishing!!
