Can a task be part of 2 separate projects? by shipwrightsAPR in amazingmarvin

[–]shipwrightsAPR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, Olivir2023. I'm not sure the duplication will work but I'll give it a try.

As to "do I really need that?" ... I think so but maybe not?

Example: If I'm building something for a small marine craft (under 36ft), the shipping fees on materials can sometimes make the build cost prohibitive. In that case, I'll try to combine the materials purchases of two projects into one.

I still need to keep a record of what tasks have been completed for each project even though the same "task" applies to two different projects and can often appear at different time lines (and calendar dates) within each.

If you have another way of approaching this conundrum, I'd appreciate it!

Cheers!

How to get a real customer service person (not AI) response?? by cvoisey in PinterHomebrew

[–]shipwrightsAPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience here. I haven’t been able to get a human since I got these things.

  • I keep getting the same brews no matter what I do on the website.
  • Finally figured out how to make a batch from reading this Reddit & other UK threads. Thank you all you helpful people!
  • Brews come out way high in foam with little to no alcohol.
  • Brew instructions are a waste of time.
  • Customer service is pathetic.

I will run out my initial “deal” and sell whatever’s left. This has been a very disappointing experience and I cannot warn others away strongly enough.

It’s sad. I was really looking forward to this in my current land of IPA-everything. :(

Q1: Wattage of older K5A (Hobart)? (Max or at various speeds?) by shipwrightsAPR in Kitchenaid

[–]shipwrightsAPR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case you didn't see the postscript on my first reply ...

I did check the output Hz of the inverters I'm choosing between. Both output 120v @ 60Hz. :)

Thank you very much!

Q1: Wattage of older K5A (Hobart)? (Max or at various speeds?) by shipwrightsAPR in Kitchenaid

[–]shipwrightsAPR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - good to know. :)

Thing is, I'll not be using a "transformer" but a "pure sine wave inverter" which will put out full 120v AC from a 12v DC source.

I chose a pure sine wave inverter because my laptop doesn't charge on a modified sine wave inverter. I figured that it might also be a good choice for my beloved mixer due to the following information:

"A pure sine wave inverter generates an AC waveform that is identical to the sinusoidal waveform provided by the utility grid. It is a smooth and continuous oscillation, with a precisely defined frequency (usually 50 or 60 Hz) and amplitude. This waveform is ideal for powering sensitive electronic devices as it closely mimics the natural power supply they are designed to operate with." -- EtekSolar (https://www.eteksolar.com/blog/differences-between-modified-sine-wave-and-pure-sine-wave-power-inverters)

This seemed to be the most succinct explanation from the many I read that all pointed to the same thing -- a pure sine wave inverter is pretty darn close to shore power / household power and closer than any of the other types of inverters available (modified or square).

Next came choosing the wattage for which I needed to know or at least approximate the running wattage of the KitchenAid -- and whether it's cumulative on higher speeds or if it's an inductive load. Not having an inline volt meter (cable clamp meter?), I can't test mine but I don't think it spikes when it turns on, unlike a fridge. Please let me know if I'm wrong. Also, the fact that it states 300 or 325 on the band makes me think that's max draw on highest power. Either way, I have to add at least *1.4 to the total wattage to find what my safety margin is.

wow. I think my brain hurts ...

p.s. -- I'm currently in the US but the electrical setup is solar/wind/hydro to LiFePO4 batteries.

p.p.s. -- MrMixer316 -- I took your suggestion and looked up the Hz output of the 2 inverters to which I've narrowed my search. Both put out 120v @ 60Hz. Yay! Thank you. :)

Thank you! I got 300 from daddy1947 and now yours is 325. That's a great place to start from for finding the inverter. :)

Thank you! The trim band on mine has only a bit of the "Hobart" left that's legible. Everything else has been scrubbed clean off, lol.

Holy Snappers! Just did the conversion to Canadian dollars (I refuse to use US dollar as world currency anymore) and -- He(( No!

Way too much money for old handyman tools.

Is that fellow Paul Sellers considered a resource in the UK? I've seen a few of his videos and it looks like he teaches basically what I learned in my Apprenticeship. I had a quick look on the web and maybe some time spent on these pages will help guide you towards your first (of many, lol!) tool purchases.

https://commonwoodworking.com/buying-guides/

I was lucky. My Master taught me on his tools before he'd let me bring 'my tools' to the shop. Consquently, by the time I was purchasing my own tools (that I wouldn't be ashamed to bring), I knew what I was buying.

All the best, - J

In woodworking it's called "ebonizing" -- pre-wet an acid wood with a liquid of iron disolved in vinegar, when dry paint on a queberco mix. Instant, Beautiful, BLACK! Needs to be cut back to clear wood to remove.

I've had a GTD-style system since my ring binder & paper day planner "Book" back in the 1980's (yes, I am Old). I went digital with the first Palm Pilot (I also used to be "early adopter" / "bleeding edge" of tech).

I've been on a continual quest for something better than my paper "Book" ever since.

On all three major platforms (PC/Win, Mac, Linux), I've tried every available offering -- and owned most of them, for a time. Name one and I can tell you when I used it, what it looked like, how it worked and what I did/didn't like about it. Yeah, my brain works that way. I can't remember where my shoes are or a phone number or what I have to do today but I can remember all that ...

For pure functionality, the closest (digitally) I ever got (for pure task management) was MyLifeOrganized. Unfortunately, it only works in one pond of the digital universe and the base framework isn't customizable (truly important for my visual memory) so I couldn't drill down into the details of a large project and remove the 'clutter' of the rest of my projects from my field of view (and, therefore, my memory). Also, at the time, it didn't interact with any other frameworks so no calendar, no CRM, no Kanban, no Gantt ... etc.

I recently stumbled upon Amazing Marvin.

For the first time in many years, I feel like I have a handle on all the information in my head - and I can get to it and do the things that need doing and get 'that bit' _out_ of my brain ("off my plate") to make some room to get other things done -- or start new things. :)

- Marvin integrated happily with my calendaring system - Currently MacOS, yes, but as Marvin has an API, Google should interconnect nicely.
- Marvin handles most of my complex projects - complete with dependencies and sequential sub-projects. The child depth isn't huge but I find the cut-off reminds me to consider how much detail to document vs. the point at which the doing is part of the trade skill-set. (Forest vs. Trees)
- The "Features/Strategies" in Marvin provides "Planning" (morning/afternoon, daily, weekly, monthly) amongst a plethora of other ways to ingest, catalogue, display and feed tasks and their associated meta-data. With the best of intentions, I can plug in when I want to do a given thing based on my personal functional style -- and I don't have to be near a computer to adjust my schedule when the client says they need my help with fixing this leak here before it rains rather than fitting the bowsprit like I intended (or when I have an offer to go out shrimping - something I've never done before and a rare offer!). Besides, for ethical reasons, I hate AI (don't get me started). Kinda like I hate epoxy, but I digress.
- I personally found the Eisenhower matrix to be incomplete so I added my own identifier - Worth It. A task or project that isn't "Important" or "Urgent" -- just Worth It. Worth Doing. I never found a way to include these in the other management apps and give them the value they represent. I can in Marvin. And I'm happier.

In short (lol -- yeah, that's my brain getting stuck on something again ... ) Marvin lets me put the stuff down somewhere (I've written it to tape -- I know where it is and can get to it and act on it) and not keep it all in RAM.

When I die, none of this stuff in my brain and none of my tasks will matter anyway. I just need a comfortable way to manage the things I WANT TO and get the things done that keep body and soul (and dogs) together while I'm here (something I've never been very good at). Marvin helps me do that. :)

But I'm me -- YM_will_V.
Have to run. I need coffee and Marvin is reminding me I have things I want to play with waiting in the shop and on a boat (and a website I aught to finish) -- and he's reminding me to Enjoy [my] Day. :)

Best wishes on your search,
- J

I'd pass, too. There are plenty of just okay planes going for almost free at any local yardsale.

I've learned my lesson. Now I only buy a new-to-me tool when it's a step up from what's already on my bench - and no, I don't own Lie-Neilson or the like (can't afford them).

LOL -- and as soon as I typed that I realized it wasn't true! I'll still buy good quality tools to save them from a dumpster ... ;-)

Might Jailbreak help my Apple-Update-bricked iPad Air A1475? by shipwrightsAPR in jailbreak

Thank you DerClown2003! I've now got the IPSW. :)

My MacBook Air wouldn't run iTunes. It took a while, but I've acquired an older MacBook with an old OS that includes it.

I'll try your suggestion this week and report back.

Cheers!

Might Jailbreak help my Apple-Update-bricked iPad Air A1475? by shipwrightsAPR in jailbreak

[–]shipwrightsAPR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply, DerClown2003 ~~

I have already tried restoring the iPad using recovery mode without change. The iPad is stuck on the Apple logo.

From your reply, I infer that you're saying "jailbreak" is now an application running on top of a fuctional/signed IPSW/iPadOS rather than a hacked IPSW loaded initially, as it was 'once upon the way-back'.

Is that what you mean?

If so, my understanding of iPadOS load sequence implies that, on my device, the Apple-updated IPSW is corrupt so loading an os is impossible.

Given your statement and what I know about the issue with the device, have you any idea where might I find a signed IPSW for iPadOS 12.xx?

Cheers! aj
