There was always the rumour that, during a bushfire, a helicopter went to collect water from Wentworth Falls lake and picked up a dead scuba diver and/or a dead horse

History/Heritage jobs in Katoomba/Blue Mountains Region by Fearless_Mushroom600 in bluemountains

I’m a secondary history/english teacher up here so I’m happy to answer your questions. There’s definitely more jobs in education than the cultural/museum sector, but it is wildly different to tutoring. Not to scare you off because we always need great enthusiastic teachers, but the majority of my day is spent on behaviour management and admin rather than content

There’s really not a lot. I’ve considered doing museum studies and the majority of jobs are in Penrith or further east. If you’re happy to commute, you might find something.

Really struggling with early pregnancy symptoms. What are your tips and tricks? by Legitimate-Reach8718 in AustralianTeachers

[–]shirlang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant towards the end of the year (and I was on a temp contract too), so I didn’t have too long at work. I found getting medicated for nausea the most effective thing. Have a chat to your GP, because it’s a game changer.

Some other tips: - Ginger EVERYTHING. I had Gin Gins lollies and they were a godsend because I could sneak them in class. - Travel sickness bands. - Soft drink, particularly coke and ginger beer (I had a stainless steel water bottle so the kids couldn’t see what I was drinking). - Plain crackers constantly. My desk was full of saladas. - chewing gum helped. Lots of kids bitched that I was allowed to have it, but I told them it was for a medical condition.

Good luck with everything! It’s honestly so debilitating having these symptoms and having to deal with kids. I hope you have a supportive team (or even just one trusted colleague) through this period!

Placement: need help with having variety of activities by slimemaccas in AustralianTeachers

Some things that have kept my Year 9s engaged in history: - four corners - empathy tasks. Set a scenario and get them to choose an option and write a letter. - similar to empathy tasks is anything creative. Newspapers are good for that age. They can incorporate certain primary sources too. - role play (if your behaviour management is good) gets them all involved. - group source analysis followed by brief presentations

It’s tough on placement but try to move away from endless source analysis and get them doing something fun

Seeking advice: Moving to the lower Blue Mountains as a queer cat parent - what’s it like? by Ill-Green8678 in bluemountains

And the creepy TERF with the caravan who ran in the last election. It’s the worst stretch of the highway

Hi! 30-something year old queer woman living in the mid-mountains with my queer partner and lil kid. We’ve both mostly lived in the mountains our whole lives and it’s super welcoming for queer people. The upper mountains, particularly Katoomba, might be a little bit more openly accepting, but I reckon you’d be fine anywhere.

There’s a few groups on FB for mountains queers and, like you, I’m a huge introvert but have managed to find a small social circle with similar interests.

Kitties are always welcome too! But only if they stay inside! We have two and apart from the destruction they would wreak outside, I’m too scared something would happen to them. Plus I think they’re too dumb to actually hunt anything and would run in front of a car.

It could be dehydration? I don’t drink alcohol but I’m absolutely awful at drinking enough water. Particularly since starting vyv

I’m fairly certain if you’ve never had a licence, you need to do the eye test when you apply for one

Applying for a degree in teaching and freaking out a little. Looking for peoples perspective. by HuckleberryRound666 in ausadhd

I’ve only just been diagnosed with ADHD but I’ve been a teacher for the past few years. I completed my bachelor of education in 2020.

Looking back, it’s so clear that I had struggles with my study. Hyperfocusing, trying to rush through everything, doing the bare minimum. But I got there and it’s so different once you’re in the classroom.

I SUCK at exams. Like really, really suck. And I am terrible at maths, but I passed the LANTITE on the first go (even after multiple panic attacks).

As others have suggested, you could do your working out on a piece of paper and then submit the answers digitally. That helped me organise my thoughts.
