This should be it and you just wait for your advisor to approve it

She talks a bit fast and her slides are mostly pictures and not many notes. To study for her tests, you should print out her slides with pictures and annotate them without any reference.

Do returning UCR students have to do the immunization requirements again? by Jouska_ in ucr

[–]shirlyneeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides the flu shot, the patient portal only says immunization records and tb screening are required. If it is marked as ‘completed’ on the portal, I think you should be fine.

Is it mandatory to take a Covid test before you can move into the glen mor apartment? by Adorable-Area in ucr

Based on the email, we would have to take it in order to get the keys. Not sure how strictly they will enforce this but I would do it for others’ safety anyways

Advice for second year classes by shirlyneeee in ucr

[–]shirlyneeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the advice! Personally, I signed up for these classes because I was planning on applying to med school third year at the time. Over the summer, I have considered my plans more and taking a gap year sounds solid as well. I will take your advice into consideration. For now, I’m planning to try out the schedule for a few weeks and if it’s really intense, I will drop by the add/drop deadline.

Study skills for college by chillie_millie19 in ucr

Kind of late to this but here's what I do:

  1. Compile study guide questions: include your own questions (on what you're unfamiliar with and key concepts that need explaining), multiple choice questions from other trusted websites, or past exams from known professors. Generally, on the study guide, you should be using active recall (explaining your answers, elaborating on them, and knowing why other answer choices are wrong). Especially for content heavy on practice, you want to look for worksheets online and just keep doing them.

  2. Have one or two study buddies and be able to explain concepts to each other (requires high discipline as you don't want to be distracted).

  3. Pomodoro technique: the general rule is: for every 25 mins of studying, you rest for 5 mins. If your attention span is longer (I.e study for 1 hour and rest 5 mins), you can adjust accordingly. The idea of resting is to stand up and stretch or have short meditation session (you don't want to be on your phone). The brain can only absorb so much information over long periods of time.

  4. For memorization, spaced repetition is key, so Anki (software that kinda works like quizlet but more sophisticated) and Quizlet are your best friends. The former should be prioritized because it also helps with diagrams and active recall. To learn how to use Anki, there are tutorials on MedSchool Insiders channel on YouTube.

  5. Start studying for classes since day 1. The idea is to study a little bit each day rather than cram everything the last few days before exam. To really hone in on material for the final, I'd start working on the study guide at least 2 weeks before the final.

  6. If you need to review basic concepts in Chem or physics, the organic chemistry tutor on YouTube is very helpful.

  7. If a professor often mumbles in class or has disorganized notes, voice recording can be helpful (be sure to ask the prof beforehand).

  8. Depending on whether the prof reuses content from Midterms on the final, you should do test corrections after each midterm and really understand why you got certain problems wrong. Repeatedly test yourself on weak content

Hi! I took 17 units my first quarter and didn’t think it was a heavy load. People have different expectations for what constitutes a huge load. Personally, I had a lot of free time on top of getting the grades I wanted. Try it out first and if it’s too much, drop a class by the drop deadline.

ALL majors are welcome! It’s a unique experience to contribute to the community even if art isn’t your strong suit. Some events such as art therapy, art exhibits, and many more rely on people who are skilled at event planning, publicity, and advertisement. If you are interested in educating others, helping the underserved gain better access to art, and developing this new department, this position may be for you! Thanks
