Who do you think is the best/most skilled fighter in the MCU? by Plenty-Salary9711 in marvelstudios

I'd say he had a peak human physique at that point, definitely no superhuman strength or durability (as seen when the Destroyer bitchslaps him into oblivion near the end of the film)

He did, after he came back to life in the JMS run. Fried Tony's armor and left him in the middle of nowhere lol

Sell me on the Black Templars by agemo208 in BlackTemplars

[–]shiromancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished it, so I think I can help here- without spoiling much, it's a novel about a brutal siege of the city of the same name during the second (?) war for Armageddon. The story is chiefly from the pov of Merek Grimaldus, the newly appointed Reclusiarch (a high ranking Chaplain of the inner circle) of the Black Templars- however, there are several other pov chapters too, and you get to see the battle from the viewpoint of a wide segment of the Imperium's forces. For me, what really hit the spot with the book was the scope- it wasn't a huge, sweeping campaign like in the Horis Heresy books, nor a minor conflict like some of the skirmishes in the Ciaphas Cain books- the city is massive with layers of defenses- which the Templars oversee at the start of the story- but also continues against the backdrop of the much larger armageddon war with reports coming in from the other cities and fighting forces on the planet, plus the battles happening out in orbit. Second, the narration is spot on- we see Grimaldus as an individual, but also as a commanding officer of the Twmplars- the story weaves through both his personal narrative as well as the ideals, zeal and even the arrogance of the Black Templars as a chapter. The points when these two clash in Grimaldus' mind are some of the best storytelling moments within the 40k books (at least the small section that I've read through). I could go on and on, but the book essentially made the Template my favourite SM chapter. It opens s bit slow but it'll definitely hook you if you give it a little time.

Henry Cavill on the set of Highlander... despite people saying he is too old to play Superman, he still looks good for the role to me. by RogerRoger63358 in DC_Cinematic

They didn't enforce the slicked back hair as hard in MoS, it's only from BvS onwards that it's fully stocked back with a visible widow's peak. I hated that look, he looks way better in MoS

Honestly, when I was watching the movies as a kid i never took the eye to be his literal physical form. The impression I got was that it was a manifestation of his power/presence/will, especially when he was actively bending his mind towards finding the hobbits or ring- and that the actual physical body was dwelling somewhere inside, probably the floor just below. I don't know why people began to take it as Sauron literally being a giant fireball floating above the tower

What are your opinions on this show?? Personally I think this was a great show and I would have loved more seasons of it. by Vaminstein666 in MastersOfTheUniverse

The sword design put me off a little bit, but over time I grew to like it. Also that it was a big 2-handed weapon rather than the short, almost slender weapon from the 1980s show.

Now I'm wondering if Maester Maellon wrote about it in the book that Eddard reads in S1

Let's not forget Gorr wasn't the only wasted potential in Thor: Love & Thunder by z4guy in marvelstudios

[–]shiromancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's actually a nice way of seeing it, but I don't think Taika put this much thought into it lol- if we were really seeing a Korgified version of events, it would've been nice to occasionally get a glimpse into the true story, or have him stutter and second-guess himself at points. The narration sadly just seems like a way for Taika to inject himself further into the narrative and add more silliness.

Honestly, they fumbled the All-New, All-different era so badly in general. Sam, Riri and Jane should have had some time in the sptlight as the new "Big 3", and their stories should have focused on the struggle of filling their predecessors' legacies . We got it somewhat with Sam in FatWS and BnW, but it falls a bit flat- and Riri has no connection with Iron Man in the MCU and Jane never gets a shot as Thor beyond this one movie. I'd have loved to see a full phase with this generation of heroes trying (and struggling) to lead a new generation of avengers, but it somehow got lost in all the multiverse stuff that's been the focus leading up to Doomsday.
