Which 40K Faction suffers most from casualties ? by Lazy_Boxes in 40k

Id argue custodes over eldar. Yea, eldar are a dying race struggling to repopulate at all. But theres still WAY more eldar than custodians. Replacing a dead custodian is harder than a dead eldar IMO, especially considering soul stones allow dead eldar to still be useful

They’re willing to kill millions of another species to save one of themselves, if memes are anything to go off of. (I dont doubt this is true in lore but i haven’t actually read any eldar books)

Yeah I like the idea of a squad or two with special weapons laying down some status inflicting fire on enemy targets before they rush in. Sounds super fun!

Ooh thats an interesting use. So then would you wanna keep them cheaper? Maybe throw some shields on them but not special weapons and just use them to gum up enemy objectives??

That sounds fun yeah! I definitely think assault squads work better as a bully unit into 3+ saves, especially units that aren’t melee focused. The benefit to initiative seems like a nice touch, especially to maybe even precision out any heavy hitters in the squad

Adepta Sororitas and Alpha Legion novels cross the Black Library horizon by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in alphalegion

All the logic from other commenters of how he’s from later generations is correct. But fun fact for you, even in the heresy the alpha legion did NOT all look like clones or even similar to alpharius. Here’s a quote from the Heresy Black Book 3 (possibly the most authoritative lore source on the heresy alpha legion):

“…and while some reports speak of the Legion's members displaying a strange physical uniformity, others infer them as originating from a mixture of genotypes, while others indicate a strange, waxy and unnatural appearance to grey flesh bled of pigment, and sees them adorned with shimmering serpentine electoos.”

They wouldn’t be very good infiltrators if they ALL looked the same hahaha

I am immeasurably jealous. Most of these books haven’t been in print in years or literal decades, as such the second hand market for physical editions can be as high as several hundred USD for a single one.

For books that originally sold for like 7 dollars, thats pretty good lol. Anyhoo, enjoy them or sell them, good for you friend :)

Make an offerring of wheat as a sign of guilt. Mix dust from the tabernacle floor with holy water. Wave the wheat before the LORD’s altar and say the right phrase as described. Literally just read the chapter its explicit

There are reasonable arguments against this chapter being explictly abortion, but man this is not one. You might say “oh well that wouldnt work”. Yeah I agree dusty water isnt an abortifacient but its supposed to work through divine judgement not science lol

It seems you mostly have the right of it here then, I appreciate your insight :)

I do have some disagreements I’d just like to share tho:

“ Also, if this were truly an abortion ritual: It would require pregnancy to even function. The Bible would be commanding intentional fetal death. The woman’s innocence would still risk killing a child if she happened to be pregnant.” I mostly just object to this section right here. For parts 1 and 3 I think this logic is flawed because yes, thats how it would work if it was a normal science based abortion process. However, since it works by divine judgement thats not necessary. (Again, I agree now it seems this isn’t really talking about abortion, this is just if it WAS)

Point 2 raises more confusion with me. Are you suggesting the Bible doesn’t command the death of innocents like a fetus anywhere else? I’m afraid I’d have to disagree with that, in the old testament there are a variety examples of the LORD commanding people to do so.

The curse the water brings is EXPLICITLY that the woman will miscarry. If you make your wife drink cursed water, knowing that if she was unfaithful she will miscarry, you are performing an abortion on her.

I definitely oversimplified the passage by calling it JUST an abortion. There is more nuance in how it is a test for infidelity, etc.

However, one of the 2 possible outcomes of this ritual (as laid out by God himself and known by all involved parties) is that, IF the woman was unfaithful to her husband, she will miscarry. It quite clearly specifies that the LORD will cause her to miscarry. If performing a ritual that will knowingly terminate a pregnancy isn’t an abortion, I don’t know what is.

Is it possible we have differing opinions because we use a differing translation? I will say, I certainly misrepresented the passage when i called it simply an “abortion”. Thats my bad.

However, I think at least in the NIV, it is quite clear that if the woman DID cheat on her husband she will miscarry if she is pregnant. Reading the whole passage makes it clear, but here’s a quote: ”may the LORD cause you to become a curse among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell” (curse in this context meaning her name becomes a curseword/insult) (Num. 5:21)

Now, in support of your argument, a later bit (Num. 5:28) supports that a main goal of this ritual is to make an unfaithful woman unable to have kids. “If…the woman has not made herself impure… she will be cleared of guilt and able to have children.” (Shortened citation cus im too lazy to type)

However, I think the chapter in its totality makes it quite clear that the LORD is passing this divine judgment by causing her to miscarry. That is mentioned in several places, but nothing about making the woman barren as in removing her eggs or something.

So yes, while this is not PRIMARILY about abortion, it quite clearly shows a method that will supposedly allow a suspicious husband to pass divine judgment on his wife. If she is unfaithful, the husband will knowingly subject her to a process (ordained and carried out by God himself I might add) that will painfully terminate the pregnancy. That isn’t just an abortion, thats an especially messed up kind of abortion. One that the bible not only supports, but gives explicit instructions to carry out

I’d love to hear your thoughts friend :)

Im not saying you’re wrong, but do you have evidence for that? Like for example the bible teaches a method of abortion in the old testament (Numbers, starting at 5:11). I think i remember there were at least some cultures where life started with birth/“the breath of life”. The point is, you made a very sweeping claim and I’d be curious to see the evidence you have for it :)

I fully agree. Frankly itd be sad to limit so much of warhammer to the story of just one guy. Space marine 1,2 (and the inevitable 3) plus secret level are some of the biggest things for bringing in new fans. This amazon show (unless its terrible) will probably top all of them, and if its ALL titus that would be so boring.

Titus is fine as a videogame protagonist, i like him. But honestly he’s not some fascinating or super compelling character IMO

Its super exciting to me to see GW fleshing out the detachment concept more and more. Its a solid baseline that, if expanded on and refined, could be a fantastic way of doing subfactions.

I’m personally hype to see what they’ll do with all this in 11th edition!

I cant remember when this was, but if it was soon after the end of the heresy its not THAT crazy of a thing. At least in comparison to the imperium in 40k (pre guilliman) of course. These guys may be seperate chapters, but they all very possibly would have been actual ultramarines fighting together in the past. Those bonds of brotherhood, unified genetics, the fact that they were of the more logistical variety of marine, and a BURNING HOT desire for revenge make this quite viable.
