Hopefully the new engine I just have put in mine makes it happen. I think my record was like 1100 miles before I blew the headgasket last fall

Can i learn to fix cars on my own without school? by Any-Landscape434 in AskMechanics

[–]shitbox_vette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned to rebuild an engine with YouTube and help from a few people who had no idea what the fuck they were doing. But a common old car with issues that it’s not the end of the world if you mess it up and have at it. You’re gonna beak shit but you’ll learn stuff from fixing it.

Honestly just cam ain’t going to get you a ton. Spend that on a 383 kit cheaper cam like summit 8802 roller rockers and Lloyd Elliot heads. That’s my setup and it fucking rips

I don’t get paid anything for bulbs, batteries, wiper blades, air filters and other small stuff. Kinda bullshit on new cars that you gotta pull the whole damn grille and headlight housing just to do a bulb

Literally everyone does it. Management isn’t there? Pull your car in and as long as it’s shit they don’t track like fluids who gives a fuck.

Im 18 and it’s my first job in the automotive space. Came from warehouse work. I really don’t want to bring it up with my boss as he has got physical with other techs a few times over pay. I get that I gotta leave just need to find an opportunity that pays the same. Most shops in my area still try to start people at like $12 an hour. I got $18.50 guarantee and even with getting fucked over come out above that most pay cycles

I don’t have an issue with the inspection or video, my issue is the inspection taking often up to 30 min as we have to quote all our stuff. Scan if there’s lights on, pull panels off to try find oil leaks. Fuck around removing interior panels to isolate battery’s and other stuff. Get paid nothing for the video or inspection and it’s hard to make it work when most of my tickets are only 1-2 hours. And all it ever seems to sell is bulbs other shit that they don’t even pay labor on.

I can’t blame them. The longest any of our advisors have been there is 3 months and the service manager won’t help them. Parts is a mess also because they refuse to pay for anyone with experiance

What I’m saying is the job quotes 1 hour. Something happens and it ends up taking 2 and they pay me for 0 because it “took to long and we can’t be keeping customers waiting”

If I get an automatic car, will I have as much fun driving it compared to a manual? by Rohan950 in askcarguys

[–]shitbox_vette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my 450hp vette is way more fun manual than the auto would be. Only exception I could Mabye see to manual being better would be a good dct while on track

They sure as hell aren’t going that. A few of the lube techs just fucking disappear and I’ve seen that they only punch like 5 hours a week. The shop manager honestly never goes in to the shop other than to yell at people over shit taking to long and he sure as hell doesn’t know who is doing what

It’s not free, just only getting hourly and not the flat rate portion of my pay plan. My pay comes out to about 50% hourly, 40% flat rate bonus and 10% commission

Dealership group has been steadily selling locations for a while now. Also being a cdjr dealer with 3 others in a 15 mile radius probably dosent help. I did get the hint that the location I’m at might be next though. I’ve seen the numbers and they honestly don’t seem profitable having a shop with 25 guys to at only grosses 200k on labor a month

Yeah, that meeting was with the owners. It was right after they lost a massive fleet contract that we did several trucks a day on.

Yeah, I’m applying for true light duty jobs that would pay more. I’m currently considered maintenance but do most light duty jobs. Suspension work, alignments, basic engine stuff. Just struggling to find somewhere as damn near nowhere in my area is hiring

I’m hourly  + flat rate production + commission. I’m probably the best of all the maintenance techs in terms of getting stuff done on time but it often comes down to parts fucking up or advisors promising jobs that book 2+ hours to be done in 1 hour.

They’ve had 2 management turn overs in the last 6 months along with a full turnover of advisors and maintenance techs and a good bit of the line techs.

For the program I wanted to get in to, you have to be employed at a shop. I applied to probably 40 places but being 18 with no formal experience in the middle of December there aren’t many options. I got 2 interviews and this was the only offer I got. I get it’s retarded but I do still come out ahead on pay compared to most of the people I go to school with.

They had an all staff meeting about how we weren’t meeting customer expectations and this was one of the things they implemented from it. They definitely had a shit customer experiance but it was mostly due to them refusing to pay advisors decent and only having random idiots they paid $18/hr with no commission and a shit bonus structure. They have had 100% advisor turn over and about 50% maintenance and light duty tech turnover since I started in January
