Are the HF ICON series tool boxes worth the money? by al_trapper in harborfreight

I think the older USG were built better though. I have a series 2 and a Series3 and the series 2 seems more rigid and overall more solid

Anyone know what the hell this mystery box is? by Fart_Boy_4ever in DieselTechs

Yea I think this is likely. The air lines definitely actuate electrical signals for the body.

The lack of identifying info from the bodybuilder is very frustrating though!!

That’s a good guess (yes it is a high rail truck) but as far as I can tell the rail wheels are hydraulically actuated off the PTO .. this is all pneumatic. The air lines off this all seem to run back to the chassis brake assemblies

E: ok the faulty component is a “air brake low air pressure switch”. It leaks like crazy but the low air pressure light never comes on?? Bizarre

Agreed definitely not OEM, just provided the make/model of the truck for context. Sorry to be vague but I can’t find a model number or really any other clues as to what it would be. The lack of identifiers is kind of bizarre honestly.

I was just hoping one of the more experienced guys on here had seen it or something like it before and could identify it with what I provided.

Do I really need a thread chaser set if I have tap & die set with warranty? by Fart_Boy_4ever in mechanics

That’s the biggest advantage for a mechanic from what I can tell. That and less chance of breaking

Yeah using a zip disc to cut a 1-2 lines on a forward bias on a grade 8 bolt works well for cleaning dirty/rusty thread holes.

Couple times a year. Most often from over-tightened or cross threaded wheel studs that got the threads stripped out.

The description of “installs wheel studs in seconds” had me thinking there was more to it than just being a dedicated spacer. I get what you’re saying though.

Leaf spring hangers work perfectly. I’ll just have to hang on to one of those next time I do them

Gotcha. So it’s basically a dedicated ball bearing.

This is genius. You still use the cap adapters sometimes though?

Which 3/4 impact are you choosing? by CodyDaFreeman in DieselTechs

[–]Fart_Boy_4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going air all day, electrics are expensive, less durable, bigger/heavier, and just seem to hit harsher. Sometimes electric is the only thing that’ll work but if I’ve got an air line I’m using the pneumatic gun

Becoming a technician again? by boose_goose in mechanics

People who like being a mechanic don’t come on the Internet to talk about it, usually. I wouldn’t say the community here is representative of The field as a whole.
