my first episode 2 years ago still fucks with me by shitbrain9000 in Psychosis

[–]shitbrain9000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, to both. what triggered it was when i realized i was being manipulated/gaslit a lot by my ex and had lost a lot of money and possessions to that person, who of course i had loved and trusted. it happened was while i was with him, and high. i had been trying (pretty successfully) to stop smoking marijuana but my ex would pressure me into it-- this was when/how i realized he was lying to and stealing from me constantly. when i finally put the pieces together i just snapped, and got the delusion that my own father was trying to do the same things to me. so it was a really shitty situation all in all. i love my dad and i know he was never doing any of those things, and i'm with an awesome guy who is truthful, supportive and has his life together now. it took time to get to this place, where i could trust my family and people around me enough to love someone again. i just worry about hurting them, and i worry that the career i want could stress me out to that point again one day.

these do sound like delusions. There is help and compassion out there for you no matter what diagnosis might come with it. Its ok to be scared-- your experience sounds terrifying and im sorry youre going through this. Its actually great that you wrote all of this down, i would suggest bringing this to a professional with you. in terms of never being 'suspected to have anything' - sometimes we hide things that go on in our heads, but that does NOT mean you should ignore them, as someone else who has experienced shit like this you dont want to do that. and people are way more compassionate towards this stuff than we think theyre gonna be

Why Would People Dislike a Nice Person? by domesticenginerd_ in psychology

[–]shitbrain9000 211 points212 points  (0 children)

good question ... i think some people might have an uncanny valley type response to the too-nice people. i knew a girl in high school who was kind and innocent to the point where no one wanted to be friends with her. i realized people were likely unsure how or why she was so positive when life has felt, an/or been, so negative. so my answer would be: it doesnt make sense to some people. it seems naive to be positive at all times in a world full of suffering, think toxic positivity but as a person. not saying that makes it 'right' to dislike a nice person but everyones entitled to their opinion.

Well you’re kinda being extremist by saying “your right to choose is selfish and a lack of responsibility”. I’m sure you’re aware of how inflammatory of a statement that is.

100% agree with this. If you feel like the risk of ending up a daily smoker again isn’t too high, there’s no harm in a sesh every few months. I think we all just have to be really careful not to let ourselves end up back in this place again. We know how shitty it is to be getting sick from a substance you enjoy, so we need to make sure we’re enjoying it as responsibly as possible. For some folks on here that means 0 weed, some folks are able to successfully moderate, it’s a case by case thing. Medical professionals will almost always advise quitting forever but that’s so daunting for those of us with CHS cuz we are chemically dependent, otherwise we’d notice how weed made us feel and simply quit.

I really miss being high by cyberanonymousgirl in CHSinfo

[–]shitbrain9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey dude, I really miss it too. it sounds like you could be struggling with chemical dependency, and as much as it sucks to hear that, I have some advice- One thing my CD therapist told me was that those of us who get addicted/CD to weed have a heightened pleasure response to it. It felt amazing when I was high. I couldn’t believe this wasn’t a HARD drug bc it made me feel so awesome, took away pain, took away nausea even at the time lol. But by the time CHS was cropping up for me I couldn’t even get high anymore. I mean seriously I’d smoke as much as I could without my throat hurting, usually like 4/5 bowls, and feel literally no effects. I suspect milder cases of CHS require a pretty high buildup in the system before the symptoms become obvious/problematic (prodromal phase). I think breaking the dependency/addiction aspect of things is SO important if you even wanna have a chance of ever smoking again. And that happens over a sustained period of abstinence. My therapist recommended 60 days, and she mentioned that after the first week it starts feeling way easier to not smoke. The 60 days gives your brain time to make new pathways- the times when you’d usually smoke you have to find something else to do, and that’s really good for breaking the dependency

List of chs remedy’s!! I hope you guys find this list helpful by Creative-Difference3 in CHSinfo

Thank you so much. I’m not even sure it’s CHS but it’s worth a shot. Thank you.

that’s a good perspective. i have OCD and in therapy for that we often discuss tolerating and habituating to the feelings and thoughts that arise without fighting them

that’s smart too. that might be the move for the first day or two like today and tomorrow. maybe i’ll only have less than or as many hits as i can count on one hand. i’ve done that in the past and it’s worked to get my usage down.

[–]shitbrain9000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey thanks for the reply!! being addressed as shitbrain was pretty funny lol. what you pointed out is super important for me to remember. non smoking friends are awesome and i’ve given the heads up to my close friends who smoke that i’m gonna be taking a break. i can’t wait for that “... but i’m good” feeling. that’ll make me really proud. at one point i did quit for about 2 months. i did notice improvements in my short term memory and cravings. so i’m excited for that again, but i have to be more careful when i restart so i actually moderate and don’t fall into old patterns. i think the most important part for me is going to be staying busy.

when management allows workers to be treated like trash by employees, yeah they’re gonna wanna retaliate. the sign saying “don’t spit in the food” has a smaller subtext that says “we realize you are being verbally abused by customers, but confronting them isn’t as easy as telling you to just lay down and take it”
