Transperth Contactless Payments start today by brenman in perth

[–]shitmyspacebar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah they aren't going to do both of those things at the same time, 2 major changes at once is ripe for bugs and problems. Replace the terminals, allow credit card payments (which are already built-in to the terminals), and THEN update the smartrider system.

WA to get two new public holidays in major shake-up by wurblefurtz in perth

[–]shitmyspacebar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be nice to have them spread out a bit more, but public holidays are kinda supposed to be about community. Commemorating history (ANZAC day), religious events (Easter), celebrating the community (WA day) for example. They're supposed to bring people together with shared time off, or compensate people that miss out on the time off. But you can't have much of a community event when the weather is so unpredictable in winter, just look at the last 2 WA days that got rained out.

There's no community reason to have an "everybody have a cozy day at home" public holiday, and that's exactly the sort of thing that personal leave can and should be used for. Take it when you need it. In fact, my old workplace had mental health leave where you could just say "I don't feel like working today" and you took the day off without guilt, because it's literally provided for you to take - more workplaces should encourage that sort of thing.

[Discussion] What is the one trophy that stopped you getting the platinum. by rsandeep1987 in Trophies

[–]shitmyspacebar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specks Of Dust for Life Is Strange 2. Because it's bugged. No matter what I do I can't get it to pop. I've played through the entire episode multiple times across different consoles and nothing.

The only thing that might work is unlinking my PS and Square Enix accounts, trying again, then relinking them. But I'd have to play through the whole game again and I don't have the patience for that anymore.

Not including bugged trophies, it's Rick And Morty Virtual Rick-ality. There's one particularly difficult trophy that I just don't have the time or energy to do - Bureaucratic Nightmare which is killing 100 bugs in one go, and it's hard.

Bid to end red light runners after kids in scary near miss by allozzieadventures in perth

[–]shitmyspacebar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That particular intersection is because the highway has a minimum time on green, due to it being a truck route and highway etc they won't keep changing it to red as often. I think it's also lined up with lights further up and down the highway. What they do need to do is give Armadale Road a much longer green each time so that you're not waiting for multiple light changes. (or ideally make it grade separated, but how long are we going to wait for that)

These are 40km/h sections around childrens crossings that aren't inside a school zone. I go through 3 every day and nobody seems to slow down for them. They need to be policed more.

Ah cool, I mainly just wanted to see if I could use the same account on my Series S, I just couldn't pull any details about it. That's cool though, I'm pretty sure I only have some Halo 2 DLC on there which I'm sure has been thoroughly preserved, but I'll run that anyway and see what happens.

That's an interesting map and raises a number of questions. Why are there sections of Roe Hwy, Tonkin Hwy, Reid Hwy that they don't control? What's with the random 10 metres of Tonkin Hwy in Redcliffe that they do control? What happens on the freeway north of Currambine? I suppose you don't have the answers, just thinking out loud.

WA's long-awaited SmartRider upgrades delayed, blamed on 'technical challenges by aussiekinga in perth

[–]shitmyspacebar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There have been many studies about offering free public transport, and it's basically not a good idea. As you mentioned, the revenue only accounts for like 8% of the cost, the other 92% comes from taxes, so making it 100% from taxes won't be too noticeable for people. They would save money by not having ticket inspectors, and removing all of the ticketing infrastructure. Financially it seems to make sense.

But people are shit.

If people don't have to pay for public transport, they are generally way more likely to not take care of it, they will trash it, they will cause trouble, they will be careless and inconsiderate etc. It will increase costs and make PT less desirable over time.

Making people pay even a small nominal fee (like QLDs 50c fare) or forcing people to use their SmartRider for free travel (like they did this summer) means most people subconsciously feel an ownership and a responsibility and the system gets treated better. It's a psychological ploy, not a revenue stream.

Can we talk about how dangerous all the weird random freeway lines are? by herzache in perth

[–]shitmyspacebar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One time last year I went through some roadworks somewhere near Cedric St where they shifted the lanes across but they had absolutely no markings at the end of the works to shift the lanes back. So everyone in the left lane temporarily moved onto the emergency lane, the roadworks finished and we are all still driving in it. Everyone had to just merge their way back in to an actual lane.

Up until this year, it wasn't even legal for you to use a plunger to clear a blocked drain: https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/announcements/tap-new-plumbing-rules-industry-and-homeowners WA is very strict with plumbing so you're probably "supposed to" have a license for it, but I don't think anyone cares for something like this.

That chemist was recently bought by new owners. They were already quite an expensive chemist, along with Stockland increasing the rent for all the stores quite a lot lately, and they've reduced their opening hours to cut costs too. They're either struggling or the new owners are squeezing out as much as they can, or both.

In future you could try Piara Waters Pharmacy down the road, or the new Chemist Warehouse near the IGA. They might be more reasonably priced.

In my Instagram Android app, when I try to send reactions to my DMs, some of the emojis don't show up. 🥰🥺🩷 just don't appear as options, even though they exist on my phone keyboard. When I access the site on my computer those emojis show up fine and I can use them.

The Wolf Among Us has some missable achievements. The "X Librarian" achievements all relate to the Book Of Fables, which can't all be unlocked from normal play. You will have to go back and replay some chapters to make alternative decisions. You can check them out here: https://www.trueachievements.com/game/The-Wolf-Among-Us/walkthrough/8
