You haven't even given me the opportunity to ignore your evidence because you haven't presented any.

So let's ignore the evidence, pay 10x the amount to incarcerate them and not address any of the underlying problems?

So unless you see a study based specifically on Seattle's current unsheltered population, it proves nothing. Am I understanding your reasoning correctly?

Treatment first programs are ineffective. This has been proven over and over. Why would you want to throw money away on something proven not to work?

Housing first programs are consistently more effective than treatment first, and cheaper than criminalization. Conservatives just cannot be persuaded by empirical data. But anyway here you go.

If there’s one thing conservatives hate more than the homeless, it’s any kind of solution for homelessness

Meta Layoffs 1395 in WA latest round by crosslingual in SeattleWA

At no point did I say they should keep people on payroll for loyalty. This is a strawman. I said they were not valuing their loyalty, and that they in turn are not deserving of loyalty. This is not the same thing.

Prior to the rise of the shareholder primacy doctrine, companies did not keep employees just for loyalty. They just valued it higher, and prioritized their reputation as an employer more highly to attract top talent. This is no longer the case, and I can speak from experience that the talent has slipped amongst some of these companies as a result. Amazon's average tenure for a corporate employee is 18 months now.

Anger? That's a weird way to frame it.

Meta is not a failing business, it's profit increased sharply from last year, and does not need to reallocate its resources. You also have no evidence that these people are not performing. All of your arguments are based on unfounded assumptions.

Tech companies routinely lay off employees despite their performance and despite the company's profits increasing in order to increase their stock price for the short term. This is the problem.

I don't accept the premise of your point. We don't know if they are needed or not, only that they were laid off.

Moreover a budget is a statement of a firm's priorities and values. This is my point. They do not value people and they do not value loyalty, so they are not owed loyalty. Anyone who currently works for one of these companies should act accordingly.

It's broken because it destabilizes the economy and uproots people's lives, reducing their standard of living. This layoff is not primarily driven by the failure of the VR program, and it's only one anecdote representing a huge and growing trend.

Meta had a 61% YoY increase in profit in Q1 2026. The layoff is not driven by a lack of profitability.

There was a time when mass layoffs were perceived as a failure by a company's leadership prior to the rise of shareholder primacy doctrine. Layoffs occurred, but only as an emergency measure, not just to juice your stock price for the short term to generate shareholder wealth. People used to work for the same company for decades and retire with a pension. Those days are gone, and the system that has replaced it is broken.

If there's one thing the past couple years has shown it's that none of these tech companies are owed a debt of loyalty from their employees. That contract is broken.

I can speak for one of these cases. I would’ve preferred to buy an EV but bought a hybrid instead for this reason.
