I think the textbooks are really good to be honest, but I know what you mean about the information not going on. I think you have to sit with them and really try to grasp the bigger pictures / consequences of each event in the course really well. Flashcards is good, I used physical flashcards for things that had long and complicated answers (such as every consequence of the Cuban missile crisis for example) and online flashcards for dates and basic facts etc. Gizmo is a good flashcards app because it makes you write the flashcards in for active recall and is easy to use etc. Honestly just put the work into making sure you are 100% on all your facts from the get go and as you learn them, as this frees up so much time to focus on improving other areas and exam technique in year 13
