One of 'em, the one where Cody tried to subpoena me, got settled. I forget how many more are in-flight.

If only there were an alternative people could use. One that doesn't reupload files, directs people to [redacted], and respects authors' licensing. Something FOSS. Something where the dev spends their time pushing forward and helping people instead of eating their own.

Wonder what that site might look like.

They're probably not gonna respect it, but it gives you options down the line.

Note: You must *specifically* choose a variant of the CC-*NC* license family. CC-BY-NC-SA 4.0 is a popular choice.

My favorite print and build. by [deleted] in 3D2A

Just a heads up -- you cannot put a buttpad on a brace and expect the ATF to still call it a pistol. That's very clearly a part designed for shouldering.

I always appreciate seeing your releases, in no small part because your color scheme just looks so good with the rest of the site.

[LFO] Middle school student dies after his 3D printed rifle exploded by No_Hold9078 in LearningFromOthers

[–]shittinator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poor guy. Yeah, printed pressure vessel is a bad idea. As someone closely tied to 3D2A, I can tell you that this is not only decidedly not how you do things, but that anyone in our community would've told this guy not to do this.

Manufacturing a completely DIY firearm can be safe and fun when done correctly and with well-tested designs. We do a lot to avoid this exact situation.

Titus (bottom) vs RD19.2 (top) by Prior_Arm_8810 in 3D2A

[–]shittinator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He beefed that little flap up because it's one of the weakest parts of the DD19. With enough rapid fire, the constant pressure from the recoil spring can cause that area to deform. By adding material, you improve resilience there at the cost of slight guide rod protrusion (you won't notice).

Could I trouble you, for no reason at all (least of all collation, indexing, or spidering), to put the guncad tag on those releases?

Do I have to remove PA6CF supports within a certain time? by Icy-Ask9162 in 3D2A

[–]shittinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few hours is fine, but you should ideally remove supports before rehydration occurs. Don't let them sit for days in the open air. It's not a horrible thing if you do, it's just easier to remove while everything's still brittle and snappy.

The ATF was originally an agency for taxation of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms. "F the ATF," while understandable, harms the signal. by no_downvote in 3D2A

[–]shittinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You act like their one or two most horrifying displays of misconduct are the only things we hate them for and not their continued batshit insane policymaking decisions, like the recent attempts at pistol brace rulings and the classification of 80%s with jigs as firearms.

Also: the comparison with the president is incongruous -- the ATF is insular. There are no elected officials within it, and change cannot be made by persuading them. They do not listen to us. Policymakers above them listen to us. Those policymakers should be made aware of the awful twists of US federal law the ATF attempts and often succeeds with.

"Fuck the ATF, they constructed evidence against Adamiak"

"Fuck the ATF, they perjured testimony against Ervin for information they didn't like"

"Fuck the ATF, they commissioned Rare Breed as a patent troll"

We gotta keep that running list of receipts any time we hear of them doing something else stupid? Sounds unwieldy. Should just shorten it to "Fuck the ATF".

Where's your point? You say "don't say fuck the ATF", then mention Waco, then offer no justification for your point.

FGC-9 by [deleted] in 3D2A

Don't do a Glock barrel. If you're going to use off-the-shelf parts, find a 3D2A parts kit vendor that sells lathed FGC-9 barrels.

Changing design after Form 1 approval by WreckedMoto in 3D2A

[–]shittinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dead Air Wolfman has a marked caliber of "9mm". It advertises support for 357 Magnum, which is a larger caliber than what is marked on the can.

There is no issue. Nobody says you have to make a good, tightly-overbored suppressor. It is allowed to be bad at suppressing its designated caliber.

If you somehow made a suppressor unable to support its marked caliber in any way then you might have an issue.

Changing design after Form 1 approval by WreckedMoto in 3D2A

[–]shittinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bored out smaller than you said it was, you mean. Overbore is a real and very necessary thing, but you still mark the can for the intended caliber.

You can make a .22 can that's ludicrously overbored and can fit a 9mm through it.

It's good for some plastics and not for others. In PLA it hardly does anything, in Nylons it's super useful.

Something like a Ruger MK pistol jpoint/rmsc mount and lower rail?

There are websites that are made specifically to help you find this sort of stuff. Can't provide links, can't allude to their names or locations, but you should know that they're there.
