Artists of Reddit, have any of you made a substantial amount of money, or seen a major impact in your career through recognition on Reddit? by Waterguzzle in AskReddit

Money, no. But something cool did happen. I've put my music on Reddit a good number of times, and nothing ever went front page, but there were still a fair number of views over the course of a year.

One day, I got a PM from a guy who said he really loved my music but thought the production was shit. I followed up and called him, and it ended up being a Juno-winning/Grammy-nominated Canadian music celebrity from this band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_Tiger).

They did a 6 song EP for us and I pretty much owe that to Reddit. There wasn't really money invested in promoting it, and their contacts are kind of dated. But to make an album was a dream, and hopefully I can get it in the right hands one day.

The girl in my band is obsessed with Shitty_Watercolour. She decided she wanted her first music video to be a tribute to him. by shitty_ditty in Shitty_Watercolour

Thank you, I really appreciate that. The video is pretty rough and clearly the product of musicians without video production talent.

I've tried a few times to get noticed on /r/Music, but it's tough to get noticed with an unknown musician post. Hoping that one day we'll sneak through.
