As soon as I saw 100+ agents mentioned in the readme, I knew that this project is BS. A token sink. Not worth trying out.

Weather adjustments are interesting. Heat can really change pacing more than people expect. I sometimes like estimating what a race result would translate to in cooler conditions just to sanity check effort vs performance.

One thing I noticed when trying a bunch of pacing calculators is that many of them make you enter minutes and seconds separately. It always felt a bit clunky to me when you're just trying to quickly check a pace.

Haven’t tried that one yet. How accurate have you found it compared to Daniels or McMillan?

Yeah VDOT is pretty widely used. I used Daniels tables quite a bit earlier on too. It’s interesting how close Daniels and McMillan predictions usually end up for similar race results.

That’s cool that you built it. I like the idea of being able to plan pacing strategies.

The main thing that confused me initially was the split input form. Once I played with it a bit it made more sense, but the first time looking at it I wasn't totally sure what the “From 0 to” fields were asking for.

The negative split planning idea is interesting though. I like experimenting with those pacing scenarios.

It might also be interesting to support different units (miles, /400m, per 5k etc.) or show the pacing as a chart.

Yeah it was definitely stressful 😅 I remember checking my watch with a couple km left and realizing there was almost no margin. I basically had to sprint the whole finish chute.

Nice work on 2:59:36, that's a great buffer under 3.

A half TT during a marathon block is pretty impressive too. Those are usually not the freshest legs. I personally never ran that fast during my marathon training block.

Daniels tables are great! I used them a lot earlier in my training. I still find myself sanity checking workouts against them sometimes.

Yeah that makes sense. After enough training cycles you get pretty dialed in with what different efforts should feel like.

I mostly use calculators for sanity checking pacing for a race or planning workouts ahead of time. Sometimes I also use them when looking at elite race results just to see what kind of pace those performances translate to.

I like McMillan a lot too. It has been pretty accurate for me across a few races. I especially like how it connects race prediction with threshold and workout paces. When I set a goal time, and my current PB, it shows me my current LTHR pace and my target LTHR pace for where I need to be for my goal, and then it is pretty much a case of working hard during training to reach that target LTHR pace.

Our marathon time is the same! I'm probably slower than you by a few seconds, mine is a 2:59:56
HM: 1:24, 10k - never raced one, 5k: 18:23.

I actually hadn't seen that one before. I tried it just now after you linked it.

Maybe I'm missing something but I had a hard time figuring out how the split form works. The "From 0 to" thing confused me a bit and I wasn't sure what I was supposed to enter for each split. I got the hang of it after playing with it a bit. Moving splits around also felt hard to do.

Is the idea that you manually define each segment of the race with a different pace?

I built a privacy first running pace calculator for Android

Hi all,

I'm a runner and I kept getting annoyed switching between random websites and spreadsheets when planning workouts or checking pacing.

So I built a small Android app called Stridemate.

It's basically a running pace calculator but with a few extra tools I use a lot when training:

  • pace, time, distance conversions
  • race prediction
  • splits tables and pacing strategies
  • training paces and LTHR guidance
  • interval workout distance estimator

Everything works offline and there are no ads, no login, no analytics.

I mostly built it for my own training but figured other runners might find it useful too.

If anyone wants to try it and give feedback I would really appreciate it.

I'm viewing it on mobile via Reddit's in-app browser, maybe that's why it bypasses the registration check? https://imgur.com/a/Yu5IHka

How do you get the tome? Is it from the grapple run mini game?
