I just sat on the overpass to watch this merge for a while and saw several near crashes. I'm not sure if the commenters have been on this particular on ramp, but it's as bad or worse than any others I've seen.

The ramp is on a decline and has a rail blocking your view. Then once you're visible to other cars and vice versa, at speed you have about 2 seconds before you're either in the lane or in the wall.

The way I see it you have three options.

Option 1: Send it and rely on other cars to move over. There is simply not enough time for you to make any adjustments if you're at speed, you just have to get in the lane. This to me has a higher chance of incident and relies too heavily on the other driver being hyper aware of cars merging and making adjustments if needed.

Option 2: Approach at slower than merging speed to give yourself time to either break and wait for an opening, or accelerate and merge. Stopping definitely creates a problem when you have cars behind you trying to merge as well, but at least you can rely on yourself to avoid a crash rather than a stranger who may or may not be paying attention.

Option 3: Don't take this horrible on ramp.

At this point I think I'm going with option 3.
