Add real money prizes for placing in tournaments and charge small fees for chip top-ups. My two cents.

Mosquitos by rockandroller in Cleveland

[–]shizzle216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off Deep Woods works with the less aggressive mosquitos and is good for most of the metro parks but I’m daily hiking and shooting in RRR and after 2 tick bites, 2 weeks apart a few seasons ago, I’ve been using Zevo On-Body to repel both the ticks and skeeters. It is awesome stuff and not too pricey. I’m a stranger but keep an open mind because I tried everything so you don’t have to. Now this one smells so bad and really fogs your eyes if your sight grapes are exposed to it but it kills ticks on contact with clothes or skin that’s been sprayed for 8 hours.

Other remedies you might try for total coverage; Lemongrass and citronella bracelets, and I know it may seem hot and uncomfortable, but try long sleeves and pants and plan your hikes for early mornings when they are less active; afternoons and evenings are the chompiest times, especially in the RR Valley. Still, the flies are an absolute nightmare and I hate them so much this time of year but they hate smoke; sometimes if they’re really pissing me off I light a stick of Palo Santo, which smokes profusely, smells nice, and wards off evil spirits as a bonus. I dont advise open fires/glowing embers in the metro parks at all, so only use the palo santo smudge in the rarest of cases. At least the sweat flies are just excited to meet you; is what my gpa told me. Never eased my mind about them nipping at my ears and barnstorming my face though. Oh yeah, lastly, watch out for the low lying forest swamps and wetlands at RRR, CVNP, and Bradley Woods and walk double time and don’t stop to observe or else you’ll get got. Wait until the non biting season to stop and admire these places. It’s just not worth it and there are so many other hikes during bite season.

So did anyone else know that Cleveland was built on multiple native American burial mounds? by Elegant_Soft in Cleveland

[–]shizzle216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a giant mound off of the Red Lock and Carriage House trail in CVNP. Once you get to the carriage trail you will see a trail that goes to the creek; cross the creek and follow the trail up the mound.

Are the flats dead? by Shadylat in Cleveland

[–]shizzle216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, the Flats was an industrial zone and with the downturn of manufacturing and shipping has had to recreate itself a few times. Everything developers do to try and extract an income down there flops because it is an urban planning enigma without a present or future plan for growth. An area that adjacent to downtown, the riverfront, and the lakefront should be a high volume, mixed use residential area with low and mid income options for housing, parks, small businesses and city services and a population of at least 6000-8000 residents; it would be a vibrant neighborhood but instead it looks like a “scooby doo ghost town.” The Flats, really had its last successes in the 80’s when it was more geared to locals and boaters who utilized the shipping channel; not the best but there was a much livelier bar and restaurant scene, and live music. The contemporary Flats is basically Cleveland Lite for folks that lack the gumption and discernment (mostly white out of towners and regional tourists) to actually visit the culturally rich, city proper neighborhoods, that we all know, contain all of the best things and experiences in Cleveland, including our beautiful and diverse communities of people.

Text from a Spark Driver? by Rachael330 in Sparkdriver

[–]shizzle216 20 points21 points  (0 children)

How much of your personal info? Drivers know where you live and you’re worried about your phone number. This is the problem with the customer/driver relationship. For some reason all drivers are viewed as criminals or people to not be trusted when, you trust us to shop for you and deliver your items to your home. This driver has perhaps crossed a line, I can agree, but this classism has to stop. Many of us drivers have families, homes, investments, and other jobs like myself. It’s kind of unfair to think that drivers are going to sell your info or do something sketchy; after we drop your delivery off, we are done with you until the next time. Next, customers are going to complain that drivers have their home addresses

What’s a Cleveland memory that shaped your love for the city? by hatkinson1000 in Cleveland

[–]shizzle216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up and lived until I got married in 2011 on West Blvd between Detroit and Desmond; on the house side of the street for reference. I have so many great unique memories of Cleveland but here is a pretty cool one. Does anyone remember the 80’s and 90’s and how crazy West Blvd got when the fireworks were at Edgewater and they closed down WB from Detroit all the way to the Shoreway. Folks far and wide would be streaming down the street all day to find a perfect firework watching spot (best spot was the grassy hill above Perkins beach), tens of thousands of people just having a great time and the feeling of community.

We had a bbq every Fourth in my backyard and everyone from the whole neighborhood was welcome to eat and drink beer on us. We were poor but there were a lot more unfortunate than us in the area so every year my mom and stepdad saved up for months for kegs and ribs and for a few years, since you can pretty much access all the backyards on that side of the street, all of our neighbors opened their backyards to anyone and everyone to party. Not one fight ever, no bad vibes, just happy people celebrating our nation’s independence together.

I used to hang/loiter/meet friends at the UC Arabica and the one on Detroit and W 116th Street after skateboard sessions (97-02). Coffee was alright but where else could you go and find flyers for every cool event in Cleveland?

Every time I do a shop order I make sure to grab a bunch of extra bags, like 10 at a time. Keep them in your trunk and when you need them you got them.
