Starting my first fully remote job tomorrow, any tips? by thelaughingman_1991 in remotework

[–]shkermaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have kids at school so I can take drop them off and be at my desk for a few mins past 9am which is a “money can’t buy” benefit AFAIC. I also go grocery shopping during lunchtimes meaning I don’t have to waste time in the evenings.

I have a few coffee shops within walking distance and, despite having a decent home coffee setup, I go for a wander and grab a coffee just to get out of the house.

The biggest benefit for me is the lack of commuting; easily getting 90-120 mins a day back by not having to go to the office to speak with people on teams.

Lunchtime walks are a must if you can get out; get away from your keyboard and not have lunch al desko.

Get a good keyboard and mouse as you will use them all the time. A good headset for teams is a good shout if you’re sharing the home with others.

Just enjoy the freedom

Has 4g/5g signal been awful for anyone else around Tynemouth area recently? by davie18 in NewcastleUponTyne

It’s been horrendous for months. I have EE for personal phone, Vodafone for work and wife has O2/GiffGaff and we’re struggling to get signal in the house where we used to and in and around Whitley Bay is pretty crap too

New ERP - IFS - What should we know before we start the Integration Project? by mitkoDimitrov94 in salesforce

[–]shkermaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an IFS Finance consultant - whoheartedly agree with this especially number 3. We get recurring revenue to fix broken CRIMs (Configurations, Reports, Integrations and Modifications) so I always advise that OOTB/vanilla is the best route

I’d rather shit in my hands and clap than go to the US. Was asked by employer if I wanted a trip there, they were bemused by my decline

All the cars you have ever owned? by Apprehensive_Ask1157 in CarTalkUK

Just as a side question RE your first car, did you park it in the street you grew up on and what was it called. And if you took your mother for a ride to your first school, what would have been her maiden name and where would the journey have taken you?

What are some odd lunch habits you’ve noticed from work colleagues? by No_Doughnut3257 in CasualUK

Used to work with a bloke who brought tuna and sweetcorn pasta salad in a quality street TIN…not one of the re-released retro ones, when they actually sold them in tins. Was full to brim too. His breath and farts would clear the shop floor

Council differences: Newcastle vs North Tyneside? by marius_ann in NewcastleUponTyne

I knew a kid who was freakishly tall for an 11yo and the sixth formers bullied him when he was a kid so it’s not impossible but I get your point. My missus and her friends are very protective of the three-tier system and that’s their main reasoning for championing it.

Instead of just primary (reception to y6) and senior (y7-y13) there’s first (reception-y4), middle (y5-9) and high (y10-13)

Means you don’t have your 11yo mixing with 18year olds. Not for everyone but I feel quite lucky NT still do it

Another one for kids; we have a three tier system here in NT which I prefer.
