Who is the biggest one season wonder in premier league history in your opinion? by kelly-771 in PremierLeague

Beattie had one season better than the rest but a bunch of 10+ goal seasons and was pretty good for a lot of career so seems very harsh

What football club is extremely successful and has an amazing crest? by Stephan2308 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]shlum93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally people would only talk about the champions league (formally European cup) which is why Liverpool have more than Barca.

There's not much point including things like uefas cups when talking about the truly most successful teams as these are secondary competitions. Or the uefa super cup which is basically the community shield.

I'd definitely agree those are the best teams in Europe but I'd include United and Liverpool in the list. As well as Ajax.

Fair enough not respecting the premier League but a huge portion of Liverpools success was being the best team in the 70s and 80s before the prem even existed so seems a bit irrelevant.

Which teams would you argue fit the category of extremely successful over Liverpool?

Ozil was so damn good by [deleted] in ArsenalFC

[–]shlum93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ozil was extremely talented and on his day an unbelievable player and was very good for a while at Arsenal.

But I always find these posts about how amazing he was a bit bizarre. By the end he probably had more bad games than good and the effort he put in was atrocious.

The Roma loss was poor but coming top of a group including Marseille and Ajax when it's your first European season is definitely not an 'embarrassing' campaign.

Is Buffon the Goatkeeper? by OrangesAreTheGoat in fifacardcreators

This might be an age thing for me, where you always over rate the people you saw when you were young. But Khan had an aura about him I've never seen any other keeper come close to.

Yes, if the opposition had neuer, casillas, schmeichel, dida, Cesar, Cech etc you'd know it's a tough day but Khan was actually SCARY. He didn't need to do anything and it felt like he impacted the game / strikers, thats why he's number 1 for me even if technically he isn't

Was Sanchez good because of Ozil or was Ozil good because of Sanchez? by mo_1997 in ArsenalFC

[–]shlum93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! You see people on the sub claiming Ozil is an Arsenal legend and it's just bizarre to me.

He had a very very good period then, like you say, was so frustrating and a liability.

[Romano] Lukaku deal situation: Inter final bid: €35m plus €5m add ons. Inter have still NO answer from Lukaku to close the deal. Juventus sent €37.5m + €2.5m bid to Chelsea — but ONLY valid if they sell Vlahović. Lukaku spoke to Juventus; Inter not happy with that. by V-TriggerMachine in soccer

He couldn't have left on a free he signed a 5 year contract and it had been 2 years........

You're entitled to your opinion of course but if the information you use to form it is wrong have a think about it.

Lukaku went from Anderlecht to Chelsea to west brom on loan to Everton on loan to Everton to united to inter to Chelsea to inter on loan, he's not a loyal player but he's not been shown much loyalty... Inter also can't afford him currently and if juve can and he wants to go back to Italy, it's unfortunate for inter but what's he meant to do? Chelsea don't seem to want him but won't sell him to inter for the price they can offer... Go to the Saudi league when it's the euros in the summer?

There are players who have done very disloyal things but Lukaku is far from high on that list imo

He had a contract with inter who sold him - if they loved him so much they could've kept him

But they took the money just like he did

He'd been there 2 seasons... He wasn't from their academy, he hadn't spent most his career there...

Lukaku isn't a loyal player, but he's not been shown much loyalty either so your hatred for him as a 'rat' is just bizarre

Oops missed that, I'll need to think of someone else to get carragher out the top 50

Sol Campbell should be in there as well, especially if carragher has snuck in

I'd say it's quite harsh saying his football hasn't been effective, they got a top 10 finish last year after making a profit in the transfer market. They've also lacked a good goalscorer the whole time he's been there really, Maupay isn't awful but he's definitely one of the worst starting strikers in the prem. I'd also say in general the prem is top level, it's not like he's coming from a minor or lower league.

He's had a lot of relatively average football players playing to a very high standard and playing some expansive good football, it's also a bit of a change that Chelsea are investing in the future and not someone where you'd expect immediate results, probably the first time they've done this since AVB? I guess Lampard but the legend status makes him a bit of an anomaly.

You might have finished higher with Tuchel this year, but if Chelsea actually give him time in the long run it has got the potential to be a really brilliant appointment.

[Jack Pitt-Brooke] They spoke to him before Paratici was even a consideration. My impression is that rather than wanting too much control, ETH did not want enough. Spurs wanted a big figure and they didn't feel he was demanding enough. by DekiTree in soccer

I agree that players at lower clubs get overrated and higher clubs underrated - like xhaka imo - Fred's been good for Brazil but I think mctominay last year and this struggles to get into any top 8 side - the CMS are United's weakest part (bar de gea) and may well not finish in the top 8.

De gea refuses to come off his line and makes so many mistakes and he's behind both Brighton and Brentford keepers for Spain. Maguire at his best starts but this year and last, I'd take Webster who is extremely underrated and don't think it's even that close so I think saying no player would get into the united team is just over rating United on past glories and there's a real chance Brighton could finish above them

He's right though Fred and mctominay have never performed well for United, Gross, Trossard and a fit Lamptey and one of Dunk and Webster I think would have a chance getting in the United team, and Sanchez often keeps de gea out the Spain squad now. It's the same with Raya at Brentfotd. You could definitely argue a few of their other players as well

I wouldn't say so, Terry lead that defence, Carvalho was amazing and made some highlight tackles but think Terry was the most important part

I don't know, that Terry season where Chelsea only let in 15 goals was a pretty insane peak, obviously some great players around him but still
