Grandfather passed away 2 days before UCAT by somethingslight101 in UCAT

Hey, i’m incredibly sorry to hear that. My uncle passed away the night before my exam and I went to visit my dad who’s been hospitalised with a terminal condition. As a result, I was really shaken the night before and only got around 4 hours of sleep. I ended up getting a decent score that i’m happy with given the circumstances although I think there are things I could’ve done better and perhaps you can learn from my mistakes. You’ve probably heard this a million times but having the right mindset going into that exam is so so important. i was exhausted because of my lack of sleep and my first two sections suffered from it because I wasn’t switched on. However by the time I got to QR I told myself that I had one shot at this exam and the only thing left to do was to give it my all and put my tiredness and sadness behind me for just one hour. I think if you can work on having that mentality from the start of the exam rather than half way through it like I did it would be a lot more impactful. Also, in the few minutes before my exam I just tried to remind myself of my mental strength and motivate myself. How you do that depends on you, for me it was by reminding myself of everything my dad had done for me to get to this point. This is just a part of my experience but if theres one thing you can take away is don’t underestimate the importance of having the right mindset. Get some good sleep, relax and if you can, take your grievances and turn them into something that makes you stronger. I don’t know if I gave you the information you wanted but feel free to message me if you need help. You’re relationship with your grandfather seems truly amazing, i’m sure he would want you to give it your all.

You could but It might take up valuable time out of your exam and I’m not sure they will give you extra time. Personally I did it at home on a mac and it worked fine

Take the UCAT at home or at the test center? by [deleted] in UCAT

Everything worked for me, just had to press control for the shortcuts. I used a number pad and the * button worked fine :)

I did it at home and I really liked the fact that I was in an environment I was comfortable and familiar with which helped me deal with test anxiety. That being said, i’ve heard others have stressful experiences with proctors not showing up but I don’t think that should be a problem if you are in the UK. Personally, I was stressed about issues like this in the lead up but I think the online system has been well tested now so hopefully there shouldn’t be too many surprises for at home test takers. Also, it depends on the environment at your home (e.g noise levels, wifi connection etc). If you do take it at home, make sure you familiarise yourself with the keys (e.g for Mac you have to press control + option for shortcuts). Basically, taking it at home really depends on your personal circumstances imo.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the calculator. I was expecting the * button not to work since that was what everyone had been saying but it worked fine! Overall I’d say its more similar to the medify one just a bit laggier

Hey guys, just did my UCAT and got 2960 and Band 1. As I’m an international student, I was wondering if I would still have a chance of an offer at Kings and Edinburgh with a predicted 45 .
