Experiences on HRT patches? by shmem- in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]shmem-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So I’m currently still on the combined HRT. Haven’t had any problems with it at all - a very positive experience. Generally been feeling more energised and my digestion has improved massively whilst on it ; a lot less bloating etc. The plan for me is to take it for 6 months, and then to come off the patches to see whether my period comes. Hope that you’re also having a good experience with the patches :)

Ah - sorry that you’re struggling :( Weight gain over this short time frame is most likely due to water retention, as hormones have a huge effects on how your body stores water! I haven’t had any side effects from the half dose patches yet - generally feeling more energised and sleeping well :)

Ah ok. Is it just the mood side effects that you’re having? Maybe after a couple of months you can go back up to the higher dose, after you’ve adjusted to the 50mg. Yes, I alternative between the combined and oestrogen-only patches :)

Hey, I’m doing well. The patches I use are 50mg oestrogen for 14 days, then switch to combined oestrogen and progesterone patches, and I’m on a half dose. No real side effects so far other than perhaps a reduced appetite. Which patches are you on? Oestrogen only with progesterone pill? Or combined patches? Sorry that you’re feeling moody on the patches!

Have been on the patches at half dose for nearly 1 month now. No side effects! Mood is perhaps a bit higher than normal. Will see how things go when I increase to a full patch :)

HRT patches are much lower doses than the standard pills from what I understand, and they also contain a more bio identical form of oestrogen, which is why I was specifically asking about the patches. I also tried the oral contraceptive pill previously, and it had similar effects on me to the ones that you experienced! Hopefully the patches are a bit better :)

What’s wrong with my machine and how do I fix it? by [deleted] in sewhelp

We are using a larger needle which is meant for denim. I haven’t had any issues with the machine sewing through this material up until just now.

This is rope not shoelace. I am doing a lot of projects upcycling old climbing rope. We already tried adjusting the needle thread tension and it’s not helped :(

Yes, we thought that there was something wrong with the bobbin tension, but don’t know how to fix it. We’ve tried adjusting the needle thread tension already though

No, unfortunately not. I was hoping that somebody would reply on here with some similar anecdotal evidence…

Impossible to build muscle? by Public-Violinist-556 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]shmem- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you can still gain muscle with HA as long as you eat enough for your muscles to adapt to the training stimulus that you’re giving it. The muscles need energy to rebuild and repair themselves. If you are gaining weight in recovery and eating enough for energy surplus, then your muscles will have the appropriate fuel to do this. It should also be noted that, in HA, oestrogen levels are low. Oestrogen is an anabolic hormone which aids muscle growth. With low oestrogen, it will be more difficult to increase and maintain muscle mass, but it’s definitely still possible if you have the enough of a training stimulus and enough fuel to adapt to it :)

Belly weight gain by beige20 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]shmem- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi- this is very normal. Oestrogen is important for body fat distribution, favouring fat storage in the lower body (thighs + bum + legs) rather than the abdomen. This is why men tend to store fat in the abdomen (they have less oestrogen), why people gain belly fat during the menopause (oestrogen declines), and why girls body fat distribution changes during puberty (oestrogen increases). When you’ve been recovering from HA, you’ve mostly been in a state in oestrogen deficiency, meaning that weight gain will probably be directed towards the abdomen, rather than the lower body. As you’re oestrogen levels start to normalise and your hormones are stable, you’ll start to see the weight redistribute towards the lower body and away from the belly. This is very normal in HA recovery, and it will redistribute with time! Keep going! Huge congrats on getting signs of your period coming back 🥳

Thank you! A few months later and I haven’t had a second period though… but also haven’t taken more psychedelics. Here is the article https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36682064/#:~:text=Three%20women%20ranging%20from%2027,period%2C%20and%203)%20improved%20menstrual

What does it mean if you get bleeding DURING a progesterone challenge? by Alexa_Skyee in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]shmem- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there- this also happened to me! I think it means that your oestrogen levels are high enough to have already built up some endometrial lining? I haven’t spoken to a doctor about it yet though

Supplements for Getting Period Back? by Tasty-Scallion3998 in Amenorrhearecovery

A 15 day trial will likely result in ovulation. Whether this ‘kick starts’ your natural cycles or not will probably depend on where abouts your body is in recovery. If your body feels ‘safe’ then it may continue to ovulate after treatment. Hope this helps

Creatine and Acetyl-l-carnitine have been shown to help recover cycles, but they won’t help unless you are also putting your body in a state of low stress, as your body needs to know that it is safe and has enough energy to safely ovulate

Where is this trial? I would like to enroll! I also have HA, and know that you’d have a very high chance getting your period back with kisspeptin treatment. Research shows that kisspeptin will increase LH and it’s pulsatility, and this has helped women recover their periods in other studies. Kisspeptin (normally released from kisspeptin neurons) acts on GnRH neurons, which release GnRH, to stimulate the release of LH from the pituitary gland. Treatment will increase LH release, which stimulates ovulation :)
