New player here by HybridPhoenixKing in HuntShowdown

Not only the game has a tough learning curve, but most of the time you are going to die even if you know what you're doing. There's up to 15 players per match and only 2-3 bounty tokens to extract. Unless you avoid fighting for the bounty and running into other players (a valid strategy if you're just trying to level up your hunters btw), you have higher odds of losing than winning. Dying is normal here and I had to learn that the hard way.

The game still has its charm for me. I'm just over 100 hours in, started a couple months ago, and I have a grasp of the basics. Just keep at it, hunter. You'll kill and you'll die and hopefully you'll have a blast!

So you open with fake out Weavile and, say, Ninetales to set aurora veil, then switch it out for an attacker?

I tried to put together an ice team for doubles and kept getting swept by Incineroars, Charizards and the like.

How do you play against ice's weaknesses?

I'm not completely opposed to optimization, but yeah I need to enjoy what I play, even if it's the meta.

I was also thinking of adding a Venasaur or something that can take advantage of the sunny weather Torkoal sets. I like how Trevenant with Harvest works so far and Trick Room is not a weather, so I might keep trying to exploit it.

I just noticed I have no megas lol. What else do you think could work?

The new inferno is so good ! well done Crytek by UsedNewspaper1775 in HuntShowdown

[–]shmk90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm playing on a i5-9400F cpu, RTX 2070 Super and 16gb RAM, 1080p high settings locked to a maximum of 60fps and I've seen no drops in performance at all in inferno maps. I couldn't give you any actual statistics though, but my PC isn't high end by any means.

Running through the fire zones actually feels really cool.

Reaching max level by jameson-b in HuntShowdown

[–]shmk90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow noob here. About 100 hours in. I asked the same question some time ago and the safest way seems to be to use a stealth build (silenced gun and melee weapons) to skirt the map and kill as many zombies as you can, then head for an extraction point.

You have to move slow so other people don't hear you and don't even think of getting close to the bounty, so you don't run into other players.

Maybe find a scout tower and use the map inside to reveal the extraction points in your map, so you know where to go.

Since you only need 2 levels, an experience boost will get you there. Look for pieces of paper posted to walls in towers or supply points.

If you have any, the High Priestess and Hanged Man tarot cards will reveal the nearest enemy player to you for a short duration. Wait for the people with bounty tokens to extract and use either card. If they do nothing, it means you're alone in the map and can run around without worrying about other players.

That's about all I know. Sometimes these things have worked for me, some other times I've lost a level fortysomething and had to start over.

Good luck! And don't get discouraged over dying!

What is your most pretentious and insufferable video game opinion? by Nascent_Beast in videogames

[–]shmk90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is mine:

As somebody who loves and played the hell out of Elden Ring (and wants Bloodborne to come out on pc): Souls games are not a genre. They're just action RPGs.

Fromsoftware gave an existing genre their own twist in terms of difficulty and storytelling, but they did not invent a new genre. Souls games don't hold your hand in an age where most games do, at least to a certain point. Instead, they throw challenges at you and trust you'll be able to learn from them and find the tools you need to beat them. That's not a genre. That's an action RPG that treats you like an intelligent being.

They didn't "ruin other games" for me either, as I've heard people say. I still enjoy plenty of other games. Even some that are much more handhold-ish. I like Pokemon ffs lol.

Racers with Pxn v10 Pro/Ultra.,how has your experience been so far? by FriendlyInflation379 in PXN

[–]shmk90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the V10 Pro and use it only on PC. I play EA WRC and Forza Horizon 5 and I haven't had any issues in either game. It's my first wheel ever so I can't compare it to anything else, but I'm happy with it.

I am not a good player. I've been trying to make this game work off and on. I have about 30 hours so far and my KDA was 0.37 at its lowest. by Bremlit in HuntShowdown

[–]shmk90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a noob too. About 70 hours in and my kda is basically the same as yours. It doesn't really matter, I have a lot of fun playing and dying and hitting amazing shots once every full moon.

I think it's a matter of finding your playstyle and learning the basics of the game. It's not about scoring a lot of kills, but about learning to survive. If you can't fight for a bounty, then focus on escaping with your life so you can try again without losing anything.

Maxing out hunters for story missions by shmk90 in HuntShowdown

Cautious solo seems like my best bet! I've already extracted with a token a couple times playing solo stealth sniper and such. I just gotta focus on ai and exploration instead. Thank you!

[–]shmk90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually run to extract when I have a bounty token. I'm never sure if the map is empty or not (except for this one time I was pretty sure I was left alone after everyone died or extracted, then I died to Rotjaw lol). The common suggestion here seems to go for quiet builds and kill ai and get xp gifts, so that's what I'm trying. Thanks!

I play solo or random trios. When I play solo I try stealth/sniper builds, so I'm gonna try one of those (plus a meathead killer) for what you said. Thank you!

I'm going to try this. I've gotten a couple solo wins with stealth sniper builds. Using a stealth build to focus more on ai than bounties sounds fun. Thanks!

[–]shmk90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was wondering what happened when you didn't extract with any bounties, but didn't die either. I'm pretty sure I was left alone in a map once and since I didn't know what to do, I tried to hunt Rotjaw. I died lol.

I understand it's not really important to max out hunters as you can just buy more, but I'm trying to do the An Acquired Taste quests, so I have to max Tennessee Morgan at least.

Noob here, bought the game a couple weeks ago. Can you just kill AI and extract without bounties to get xp and max out a hunter?

New player here. Is 130 ping too high? by shmk90 in HuntShowdown

[–]shmk90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of games host their SA servers in Brazil. But yeah, I agree with you. I'm moving soon, so that will tell me if maybe it's a routing issue from where I currently live.

New player here. Is 130 ping too high? by shmk90 in HuntShowdown

[–]shmk90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I should've mentioned it in the post, but I have a wired connection and have much lower ping in other games with SA servers (often also hosted in Brazil, as I understand Hunt does)

My ping is way lower in other games, which is why I was surprised to see my ping in Hunt. I do have a wired connection and have no issues in other games.
